    摘要: A piezoelectric element has a very small size, has a high coefficient of electromechanical coupling, and can easily be impedance-matched to a circuit. An interdigital electrode, including two comb-shaped electrodes, is provided on one surface of a plate-like piezoelectric member, and similarly, an interdigital electrode, including two comb-shaped electrodes, is provided on another surface of the plate-like piezoelectric member. The piezoelectric member is polarized by applying electrical fields between the two respective pairs of comb-shaped electrodes; and in addition, by applying an electrical field for excitation between a terminal connecting one of the comb-shaped electrodes to each interdigital electrode, and another terminal connecting the other comb-shaped electrodes to each interdigital electrode, longitudinal vibrations in a stiffened mode are excited, whereby the piezoelectric member expands and contracts in the longitudinal direction thereof.

There is provided a piezoelectric ceramic which is a composite oxide of at least lead, zirconium and titanium, wherein an oxide of manganese exists in a grain boundary layer in a density higher than that in a crystal grain of the piezoelectric ceramic and a glass phase exists in the grain boundary layer. It is manufactured by depositing a manganese compound and a glass material on the surface of a piezoelectric ceramic comprising a composite oxide of at least lead, zirconium and titanium and by performing thermal processing thereafter to diffuse the deposited substance in a grain boundary portion of the piezoelectric ceramic.

Manganese oxide and lead oxide are caused to coexist in high concentration in grain boundary parts of the piezoelectric ceramics containing composite oxides of at least lead, zirconium and titanium as compared to intra-crystal grains of the piezoelectric ceramics. It is manufactured by treating the piezoelectric ceramics by heat after adhering manganese and lead compounds on the surface thereof to diffuse the oxides in the grain boundary parts of the piezoelectric ceramics.

    摘要: A monolithic piezoelectric element includes an element assembly in which internal electrode layers and piezoelectric ceramic layers are laminated alternately. The internal electrode layers contain an Ag—Pd alloy, which has an Ag content of 85 percent by weight or more as a primary component, a metal element having a valence of at least one of pentavalence or hexavalence. The piezoelectric ceramic layers contain a composite oxide represented by Pb(Ti,Zr)O3 as a primary component, a part of Ag contained in the internal electrode layers is almost uniformly diffused therein and, the metal element is diffused in the form of a metal oxide in such a way that the concentration is reduced with decreasing proximity to the internal electrode layers. In this manner, a monolithic piezoelectric element having a desired large piezoelectric constant can be obtained without inviting an increase in cost even when a firing treatment is conducted at low temperatures.
