Abstract:
A method and device of treating an irregularly shaped article to prepare the article for painting is provided. The device includes a burner which can produce an adjustable flame tongue which can fit into crevices, openings and other irregular topographical features of an item to be painted or otherwise coated. The burner device further provides means to apply a grafting chemical on a freshly oxidized surface. Further, the invention provides means to colorize treated objects so that they may be recognized as having been treated. In another embodiment, the grafting chemicals may be enhanced with electrolytic solutions such that electrostatic methods of painting may be subsequently employed on the item. In an alternate embodiment, the burner is adapted to spray a powder inside of a generally enclosed flame, and is used in conjunction with chop guns to manufacture glass or carbon fiber preforms. In a preferred embodiment all of the main systems of the present invention are provided with redundancies that allow the continuous operation of the device. Further, the device provides means to run and modify the process either locally or by remote communication means.
Abstract:
An air flow rate meter and method for monitoring the flow of air in high-pressure compressed air system includes a low pressure gauge contained within a sealed, high pressure vessel that is connected to the high pressure compressed air line. The low pressure gauge is pneumatically connected to opposite ends of a tube disposed within the meter through which the main air pressure line flows in order to detect the pressure drop across the restricted orifice defined by the tube. The measured pressure drop is then used by the gauge to determined the rate of air flowing through the line. To avoid damage to the meter, the air flow rate meter further includes a pressure regulating valve for regulating the input air flow pressure during startup of the system, and a check valve for closing the flow path through the pressure vessel during shut down.
Abstract:
A method of calibrating and measuring volume flow through a gear-type flowmeter, having a magnetic sensor affixed to the flowmeter to detect incremental movement of the flowmeter teeth. The sensor is connected to an analog-to-digital converter and computer processor, which receives and stores samples of the sensor signals. The samples are compared with subsequently received samples to derive relative gear positions and to calculate volume flow based on the relative gear positions. The samples may also be analyzed and compared with previous samples to detect flowmeter wear and wobble conditions.
Abstract:
A paint color change system and method for sequentially supplying different color electrically conductive paints to an electrostatic applicator. Paint is supplied through a supply hose to a first isolated reservoir and the supply hose is purged and dried to form a voltage block. While paint is supplied through a first delivery hose from the first reservoir to an applicator, a second reservoir is cleaned, paint is supplied to the second reservoir through a supply hose, and the supply hose is purged of paint and dried to form a voltage block. Upon completion of coating with the first color paint, the first delivery hose is purged of paint and dried to form a voltage block and paint then is supplied from the second reservoir through a second delivery hose to the coating applicator. If the same color paint is applied from both reservoirs, the first delivery hose can be cleaned and dried after paint delivery from the second reservoir has started to permit continuous coating.
