Abstract:
A surgical suturing apparatus includes a suture housing, a needle mounted within the suture housing for movement about an arcuate path, and a drive assembly operably associated with the needle for controlling movement of the needle with a suture secured thereto about the arcuate path in a manner facilitating application of the suture to tissue. The drive assembly includes a friction camming member that moves along the suture housing under the control of the drive mechanism, wherein actuation of the drive mechanism causes the friction camming member to selectively engage and disengage the needle causing the needle to move about the arcuate path.
Abstract:
A surgical suturing apparatus includes a suture housing, a needle having a proximal end and a distal end, the needle being mounted within the suture housing for movement about an arcuate path, a drive assembly operably associated with the needle for controlling movement of the needle with a suture secured thereto about the arcuate path in a manner facilitating application of the suture to tissue, and mechanism for determining the position of at least one of the distal end of the needle and the proximal end of the needle at all points along the arcuate path about which the needle moves.
Abstract:
A system and related techniques automatically exercise the output capabilities of a printer or other output device, and return a log or record of those capabilities to the print manager of a host operating system or other destination. According to embodiments, the host, client or other machine may decide to query a printer, facsimile machine, copy or multifunction machine or other device to determine its range of output capabilities such as available fonts, graphical or rending routines, firmware compatibility or other functions or capabilities. The host may transmit a composite electronic document, containing various components including intermediate language objects which may be interpreted to execute various output processing, such as exercising a set of fonts, scaling, rotating, or other rendering or output functions. The results may be captured in the printer or other output device, for instance by dumping an output buffer or returning execution codes, and returned to the host machine where the available capabilities may be displayed, including in embodiments a rendering of the physical output or simulated physical output on the user interface. The invention offers enhanced profiling and verification for printers and other output systems, compared to manual test pages and other test procedures.

Abstract:
A system and method for color management are disclosed. The system may include stored color palettes and a structured color picker for selecting color choices from the color palettes. The structured color picker may include a set of colorist theory rules for facilitating selection of harmonious colors from the color palettes. A user may input an image having a preferred color combination in order to create a desirable color palette. A user interface wizard may also be provided for allowing user to select a color palette or particular colors within the color palette. The color picker may expose the harmonious colors to the user through the user interface wizard. Furthermore, the color management system enables adjustment of selected colors based on user color deficiency.

Abstract:
A system and method for image acquisition enables selective automated application of color management to color image data generated by an image-capturing device by the device driver for the device. In the image acquisition system, each image-capturing device has properties or operation parameters that can be set to control the operation of the device. During an image acquisition operation, color image data generated by the image-capturing device are transmitted to the device driver. If the operation parameters of the device are set to indicate that color management is to be performed, the device driver calls color management functions provided by the operating system to perform the desired color operation, such as a color space conversion, on the received color image data. The processed color image data are then sent to the image-processing application for further processing or editing.
Abstract:
The disclosed method diminishes the resolution or the perceived resolution of images and compares the images to evaluate the color image quality of images. The method determines how far away images have to be or how much the resolution needs to be reduced for the images to be perceived as the same. A smaller viewing distance or a lower reduction in resolution corresponds to a closer similarity between the images. A relatively longer viewing distance or a greater reduction in resolution where the visual difference becomes unperceivable is indicative of a large difference between the images.
Abstract:
A method and system for controlling gamut mapping algorithm parameters and exposing those parameters as user interface elements to allow users to interactively control the gamut mapping algorithm parameters is provided. A request to modify a user interface is received and a modified gamut mapping algorithm parameter element is loaded into the user interface in response. The request to modify can be a request to modify a pre-existing gamut mapping algorithm parameter element or a format of a corresponding gamut mapping algorithm parameter. User specified requests to adjust gamut mapping algorithm parameter elements are received and color management operations are adjusted in response. A three dimensional representation of a device color gamut can be displayed and modified by a user, and an input image that is being processed by the color management operations is displayed and modified dynamically in response to user specific adjustments.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to producing and reproducing an image using a tone reproduction curve which has been selected based on statistical evaluation of psychophysical data, such as psychophysically quantified subjective judgements. By providing a controlled acquisition and evaluation of psychophysical data to select a tone reproduction curve, visually improved imagery can be assured. Further, once a procedure for controlled acquisition and statistical evaluation of psychophysical data has been established for a given environment, lesser skilled technicians can be used to carry out selection of a tone reproduction curve.
