摘要: In a CIRC encoder for carrying out error correction coding processing with a CIRC, a first interleaver and a second interleaver are provided which have different delay parameters, and these interleavers are switched in accordance with the recording density of an optical disc for recording data. Also, in a CIRC decoder, a first deinterleaver corresponding to the first interleaver and a second deinterleaver corresponding to the second interleaver are provided, and these deinterleavers are switched in accordance with the recording density of an optical disc for reproducing data. A recording/reproducing system is realized which is capable of carrying out appropriate recording and reproduction of data to and from an optical disc having a higher recording density can be carried out and is also capable of handling an optical disc of an existing format.

摘要: In a magneto-optical recording apparatus, in which light spots are sequentially formed on a magneto-optical disk at the timing of a predetermined reference clock signal while a modulating magnetic field, which is reversed in polarity as a function of record data in synchronism with the reference clock signals, is applied to the disk for magnetically recording the record data thereon; the timing of polarity reversal of the modulating magnetic field with respect to the reference clock signal is delayed as a function of the magnetic and/or temperature characteristics of the magneto-optical disk to permit a magnetized domain to be formed at the correct position with respect to the timing of the reference clock signal. The intensity and/or duration of intermittent energizing of the light beam is controlled as a function of the ambient temperature of the magneto-optical disk and/or the radial sweeping position of the light spot to permit each magnetized domain to be formed at the correct position with respect to the timing of the reference clock signal.

摘要: A recording medium of the recordable type in the form of a multi-layer disc or the like which is improved in compatibility and feasibility in use and a recording apparatus and a recording method ready for the recording medium are disclosed. A region for recording interlayer folding back position information is set on the recording medium (for example, “End sector number in Layer 0” or a session item type 3). In response to a fact that recording on a certain recording layer reaches a maximum recording range or that data recording advances from a certain recording layer to a next recording layer, interlayer folding back position information is recorded on the recording medium. This signifies that such recording is performed when advancement of the data recording to another recording layer is performed at a stage prior to disc closing or session closing or when it is predicted that such advancement of the data recording occurs soon. Also where the disc is of the type for which multi-session recording is performed, interlayer folding back position information is recorded with regard to a session in which folding back is performed.

摘要: The amount of light reflected from a disk is detected, and it is determined according to the amount of reflected light whether the disk is a recordable disk or a rewritable disk. The disk is controlled according to the result of determination such that it is rotated at a constant angular velocity (CAV) or at a constant linear velocity (CLV) and recording is executed. Further, rotation driving control of the disk is selected according to factors other than the type of the disk, such as according to whether random recording is allowed or not, according to a recording state in the disk, according to whether an alternative area is provided or not, according to a recording start position, or according to whether initialization is required or not. CLV control or CAV control is appropriately selected for a disk at recording to suppress a reduction in accessibility and a reduction in data transmission rate.

摘要: An optical disc having a power calibration area for calibrating the power of a data recording laser beam. The power calibration area is provided at an inner peripheral part of the disc and has test areas and count areas. The test areas are provided to accomplish trial writing of data, and the count areas are provided to record data representing the use condition of the test areas. Data is recorded on the optical disc, while calibrating the data recording laser beam. The number of the test areas is increased in accordance with an increase in the recording density of the optical disc. The optical disc may be a double-density CD. In this case, the disc has 800 to 1200 test areas. The test areas have the smallest possible size, and the count areas are provided in the smallest possible number. Therefore, the disc can have sufficiently large data regions. Thus, the power of the data recording laser beam can be therefore adjusted many times. The amount of data that can be recorded on the optical disc therefore increase.
