    摘要: A field-responsive fluid which enters a semi-solid state in the presence of an energy field is improved by use of a plurality of energy field responsive particles which form chains in response to the energy field. The particles can be (a) composite particles in which at least one field-responsive member having a first density is attached to at least one member having a second density that is lower than the first density, (b) shaped particles in which at least one field-responsive member has one or more inclusions, and (c) combinations thereof. The particles improve the field-responsive fluid by reducing density without eliminating field-responsive properties which afford utility. Further, a multi-phase base fluid including a mixture of two or more substances, at least two of which are immiscible, may be used. The multi-phase base fluid improves the field-responsive fluid because surface tension between the boundaries of the immiscible substances in conjunction with chains formed by field-responsive particles tends to stop or retard creep flow, resulting an improved dynamic or static seal.

    摘要: A valve control system for a wellbore includes a fiber composite actuator functionally coupled to a valve operating member and means for controllably charging an interior of the actuator with fluid under pressure. A valve for a wellbore includes a valve stem and a valve seat associated with a valve body. The valve stem and valve seat are configured to enable fluid flow from an inlet port in the valve body to an outlet port in the valve body when the stem is moved from the seat. An axial contraction fiber composite actuator is functionally coupled to the valve stem. The valve includes means for controllably charging an interior of the actuator with fluid under pressure.

In an embodiment, an apparatus for converting vibrational energy to electrical energy includes a vibrational energy harvester having a transducer for generating time-varying electrical signals in response to environmental vibration; at least one power storage device; a switching network operably coupled between the transducer of the vibrational energy harvester and the at least one power storage device, wherein the switching network includes a plurality of switching elements each defining a switchable current path that is controlled by a control signal supplied to the respective switching element; and electronics configured to generate the control signals for supply to the switching elements of the switching network, the electronics including first circuitry, second circuitry, third circuitry, and fourth circuitry.
