    Abstract: An elevator system includes an elevator car constructed and arranged to travel in a hoistway. A linear propulsion system of the elevator system is configured to impart a force upon the elevator car to control movement of the car. The linear propulsion system includes a secondary portion mounted to the elevator car and having a plurality of magnets. A first primary portion of the linear propulsion system includes a mounting assembly, a plurality of coils engaged to the mounting assembly, and a first cooling device including at least one conduit projecting outward from the mounting assembly and into the hoistway for transferring heat.

    Abstract: A permanent magnet linear motor. The permanent magnet linear motor including a primary comprising a magnetically permeable core having a first face surface on a first side of the core a plurality of teeth forming a plurality of slots on the first side, and a plurality of multi-phase windings wound to have segments thereof in the slots forming a plurality of magnetic poles at each of the first face surfaces; a permanent magnet pair of opposing polarity configured to produce magnetic flux and cause the primary to exert a force on the secondary when the plurality of multiphase windings are excited by a multiphase source; and a passive ferromagnetic secondary adjacent to but spaced from the first face surface, the passive ferromagnetic secondary being moveable with respect to the primary.

    Abstract: An elevator system (10) is disclosed. The elevator system (10) may comprise a hoistway (18) including first and second hoistway portions (12, 16), a first car (14), a first stationary stator (44a) disposed in the first hoistway portion (12) and a second stationary stator (44b) disposed in the second hoistway portion (16), a first mover (42) mounted on the first car (14), and a first guiderail (62) disposed in the first hoistway (12). The first hoistway portion (12) may be free of other guiderails (62) for the first car (14). The first car (14) may be propelled in the first hoistway portion (12) by only the interaction of the first mover (42) with the first stationary stator (44a). The first car (14) may be propelled in the second hoistway portion (16) by only the interaction of the first mover (42) with the second stationary stator (44b).

    Abstract: Enclosed space air conditioning systems having air conditioning module(s) with an enclosure defining a cavity, a thermoelectric element arranged to condition air within the cavity, an air direction mechanism to direct air from the cavity into an enclosed space, and an electronics package for controlling the air direction mechanism and the thermoelectric element, the electronics package including a detection element to detect when an occupant in the enclosed space is in proximity of the at least one air conditioning module. The electronics package is configured to activate the air direction mechanism and/or the thermoelectric element when the occupant is detected, deactivate the activated air direction mechanism and/or thermoelectric element when the occupant is no longer in proximity, and/or activate the air direction mechanism and/or the thermoelectric element to maintain an enclosed space preset condition.
