There is provided an encoding and decoding method and an information recognition device using the same. A code block includes a center coding region and a peripheral coding region arranged around the center coding region. The encoding and decoding method uses the feature of at least one microdot included in the center coding region as codes. The encoding and decoding method uses the feature of at least one microdot included in the peripheral coding region as codes. The encoding and decoding method uses the relative feature between the center coding region and the peripheral coding region as codes. The information recognition device compares the read feature with pre-stored features to decode information such as position codes, object codes, parameter codes and control codes.

There is provided a portable electronic device including a backlight module, an ambient light sensor, a proximity sensor and a processing unit. The backlight module illuminates with backlight brightness. The ambient light sensor is configured to detect ambient light intensity. The proximity sensor is configured to detect an object. The processing unit is configured to activate the proximity sensor when the ambient light intensity detected by the ambient light sensor is lower than a predetermined value or decreases more than a predetermined range, and to maintain or reduce the backlight brightness according to a detection result of the proximity sensor. There is further provided an automatic detection method.

A device for determining a gesture includes a light emitting unit, an image sensing device and a processing circuit. The light emitting unit emits a light beam. The image sensing device captures an image of a hand reflecting the light beam. The processing circuit obtains the image and determines a gesture of the hand by performing an operation on the image; wherein the operation includes: selecting pixels in the image having a brightness greater than or equal to a brightness threshold; dividing the selected pixels; and determining the gesture of the hand according to a number of group of divided pixels. A method for determining a gesture and an operation method of the aforementioned device are also provided.

In the inventive video generating system and method, the image sensors share a signal transmission interface to transmit image data and synchronization signals in a time-shared manner to reduce the complexity of the signal transmission interface.

A distance-measuring device is utilized for measuring a measured distance between a measured object and the distance-measuring device. The distance-measuring device reduces the effect of a background light and a flicking light by removing the part corresponding to the background light and the flicking light from light-sensed signals generated by an image sensor of the distance-measuring device. In addition, the distance-measuring device calculates a calibrating parameter for calibrating an assemble-error angle of the distance-measuring device, according to an imaging location of a reflective light obtained by measuring a calibrating object with a predetermined distance. In this way, the distance-measuring device can correctly calculate out the measured distance.
