    Abstract: A secondary battery including a positive electrode including a positive electrode active material capable of electrochemically absorbing and releasing lithium ions, a negative electrode including a negative electrode active material capable of electrochemically absorbing and releasing lithium ions, a separator interposed between the positive and negative electrodes, and a non-aqueous electrolyte. The positive electrode includes a positive electrode material mixture containing the positive electrode active material and a positive electrode additive. The positive electrode additive includes a compound represented by LiaFexMyOz, where 0≤a≤5, 0≤x≤5, 0≤y≤1, and 0≤z≤4, with at least two of a, x, y and z being more than 0, and M includes at least one kind selected from the group consisting of Mn, Zn, Al, Ga, Ge, Ti, Si, Sn, Ce, Y, Zr, S, and Na.

    Abstract: The nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery comprises the following: a positive electrode including a positive electrode active material that includes a lithium-containing transition metal oxide, a negative electrode including a negative electrode current collector wherein lithium metal deposits on the negative electrode current collector during charging, a separator disposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, and a nonaqueous electrolyte. The molar ratio of the total amount of lithium held by the positive electrode and the negative electrode to the amount of transition metal in the positive electrode is not more than 1.1. In addition, in the discharged state, a space layer is present between the negative electrode and the separator, and the positive electrode capacity per unit area, α (mAh/cm2), of the positive electrode and the average in thickness, X (μm), of the space layer 50 satisfy 0.055≤α/X≤0.2.

    Abstract: A positive electrode for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery includes a positive electrode mixture layer, wherein the positive electrode mixture layer includes a positive electrode active material, a first binder, and a second binder; the positive electrode active material includes a composite oxide represented by the following formula (1): LiaNixCoyMe(1-x-y)O2 (1), where 0.97≤a≤1.2, 0.5≤x≤1, and 0≤y≤0.1; the element Me is at least one selected from the group consisting of Al, Mn, B, W, Sr, Mg, Mo, Nb, Ti, Si, and Zr; the first binder is a polymeric binder comprising at least a vinylidene fluoride unit; the second binder is a polymeric binder comprising at least a diene unit; and a ratio of the second binder to a total amount of the first binder and the second binder is 5 mass % or more and 35 mass % or less.
