摘要: Disclosed are various embodiments of cross-wind turbines that are capable of providing high efficiencies over a wide range of wind velocities. An airfoil stator causes wind to accelerate along its surface and creates a low pressure area on the leading face of the rotor blade during the power stroke. A blocking stator blocks wind from impeding the movement of the rotor blades during the return cycle and directs wind onto the trailing face of the rotor blades during the power cycle. A large pressure differential is created between the leading face of the rotor blade and the trailing face of the rotor blade during the power cycle which creates a large amount of force that rotates the rotor blade about the central shaft. In some embodiments, gaps are provided between the inside edge of the rotor blade and a stationary shaft which vents wind collected by the rotor blade during certain portions of the rotation cycle. The vented wind increases the pressure on the trailing face of the rotor blades during the return cycle to further assist in the efficiency of this system.

摘要: A vehicle is provided having an adjustable seating assembly comprising one or more members. One member of the seating assembly can be adjusted to provide a backrest to a straddle type seat of the vehicle. As such, when a carrier bed having an accessory platform is located rearward of the straddle type seat, the one member can optionally be used to provide a wall portion of the carrier bed. The one member can also be adjusted to provide an extension to the straddle type seat. As such, when an accessory platform is located rearward of the straddle type seat, the one member can optionally be used to at least partially cover a segment of the accessory platform. When an accessory platform is located rearward of the straddle type seat, an additional member of the seating assembly can be adjusted to provide a backrest to one or more of the straddle type seat or an extended straddle type seat. The additional member can also be adjusted to form a segment of the accessory platform.

摘要: A surgical wound retractor is adapted to dilate a wound stretchable to a desired diameter, the retractor includes a first ring having a diameter greater than that desired for the wound and being adapted for disposition interiorly of the wound. A second ring has a diameter greater than that desired for the wound and is adapted for disposition exteriorly of the wound. A plurality of retraction elements are disposed in a generally cylindrical relationship to each other, between the first ring and the second ring. These elements extend through the wound to exert a radial retraction force on the wound which is dependent on the distance separating the first ring and the second ring. Retraction elements, both distensible and non-distensible are contemplated with appropriate attachment elements at the rings to provide for variations in the retraction force. With a suitable retraction sleeve, a third ring can be provided to form a circumferential retainer to vary the retraction force. Rings can also be made inflatable or self-expanding to vary the retraction force. An associated method includes the step of rolling the second ring circumferentially of the third ring to form the circumferential retainer.

摘要: An applicator dispenses a pressurized fluid to a workpiece to be processed with an elongate housing having a first end and a second end. An enlarged annular flange extends radially from adjacent the first end of the housing and is connectable to a source of pressurized fluid. A tapered cone is formed on the second end to define a reduced diameter relative to the housing to enable streaming of the pressurized fluid to be applied. A separate mixer is positionable within the housing. Preferably, the mixer is moveable longitudinally with respect to the housing during use. The mixer includes a valve member connected to one end for movement relative to a valve seat defined by an inner surface of the cone. The valve member moveable between an opened position and a closed position. A piston is connected to an opposite end of the mixer from the cone to move the mixer longitudinally within the housing. The piston is moveable within a chamber between first and second end limits of movement.

摘要: Apparatus is disclosed for protecting a structural object from the potentially harmful effects of a cyclic event such as an earthquake or high wind loads. A fluid spring is employed to stiffen the structural object and absorb kinetic energy stored by the spring. Fluid from the spring is exchanged with an accumulator where kinetic energy is dissipated as heat. A flow circuit regulates the exchange of fluid between the spring chamber and the accumulator chamber under controlled conditions to absorb the harmful effects of high external loads and to release the structural object when a high shock load is experienced.

摘要: A test system is provided which tests the on chip cache of a microprocessor (CPU). The test system provides test vectors to the CPU in a specified sequences. The CPU then uses its internal general purpose registers to write the vectors the cache memory locations. After writing, the data is read back and compared to an expected value. The results are then stored in other general purpose registers of the CPU. Using the CPUs general purpose registers to record the test results allows the test system to test many cache locations in parallel. Furthermore the test system allows the test to proceed in a fixed number of CPU clock cycles regardless of any detected errors.
