摘要： A variable-bit-rate (VBR)-encoding of a plurality of clips from a plurality of video content items is performed to produce a VBR-encoded aggregated video content item. The VBR-encoding of each of the clips is based on an encoding complexity of at least one other one of the clips. This can be performed by combining the clips into aggregated video content and two-pass VBR-encoding the aggregated video content. A video quality test may be performed using the VBR-encoded aggregated video content item.

摘要： A method of using an entertainment system can allow a plurality of different options to be presented to a user of the entertainment system when an incoming phone call is detected. The user can choose an option, and the entertainment system can be configured to take appropriate action based on the option selected. Such a method allows the user of the entertainment system to make a real-time disposition of the incoming phone call, rather than relying solely on a predetermined set of configurations. In one embodiment, an apparatus and handset can be used in carrying out the method. In another embodiment, a handset for use with the entertainment system can be a remote control that includes telephone control features, or the handset can be used with VoIP connections.

摘要： Methods, systems and content have been developed for increasing the bandwidth available to a bandwidth-constrained medium for transmitting digital video content. The content that is to be transmitted is compressed in proportion to the desirability of the content. The desirability of the content is determined by obtaining human-factors data indicative of whether a selected item of content is highly desirable. A desirability score derived from the data is assigned to the content. The desirability score determines the compression level. Feedback systems change the level of compression as the desirability of the content changes with time.

摘要： Methods, apparatus, and systems to deliver electronic mail using payments are disclosed. An example method involves receiving an electronic mail message at a server. It is then determined whether the electronic mail message includes information indicative that a sending entity has posted an electronic mail delivery payment to enable delivery of the electronic mail message. When the electronic mail message includes the information indicative that the sending entity has pasted the electronic mail delivery payment, a funds account of an intended recipient of the electronic mail message is polled to determine whether the electronic mail delivery payment has been deposited in the funds account. The electronic mail message is not sent to a mailbox of the intended recipient unless the electronic mail delivery payment has been deposited in the funds account regardless of whether the sending entity is on a permissions list.
