A process for reducing the level of cyclopentadiene present in a hydrocarbon stream containing isoprene and cyclopentadiene which involves contacting the stream with a base wherein said base is selected from the group consisting of potassium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide and potassium fluoride. The base is situated on activated carbon carrier.

An elastomeric adhesive composition or cushion which binds various elastomeric layers together is solventless and comprises a blend of a bis-imide compound, one or more elastomers, and a tackifier. The elastomeric adhesive has strong blowout protection and can be utilized to form a laminate of a buffed cured tire carcass carcass to a cured or uncured tire tread.

The present invention relates to methylol modified bismaleimides which are prepared by reacting under condensation conditions an aldehyde and a bismaleimide compound wherein the aldehyde is selected from the group consisting of formaldehyde, acetaldehyde or mixtures thereof; andsaid bismaleimide compound is of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is a divalent radical selected from the group consisting of an acyclic aliphatic group, a cyclic aliphatic group, an aromatic group, and one to three alkylaromatic groups and wherein these groups may contain a hetero atom selected from O, N and S.

Silicone rubbers can not normally be vulcanized or cured with sulfur. For this reason it has been traditionally difficult to co-cure blends of silicone rubbers and diene rubbers utilizing conventional sulfur curatives. This problem has severely limited the utilization of silicone rubber/diene rubber blends in many applications. However, this difficulty can be easily overcome by utilizing in such blends the sulfur curable silicone rubbers of the present invention. These sulfur curable silicone rubbers are prepared by modifying silicone rubbers which contain pendent vinyl groups with N-chlorothio-sulfonamides.

Diphenylamine is reacted with styrene in the presence of a base modified acid clay catalyst to improve yields of the p-styrenated diphenylamine (DPA), particularly the distyrenated DPA. Fuller's Earth exemplifies the clay, while KOH exemplifies the base. The highly p-styrenated diphenylamine is an active antioxidant with low volatility.
