    摘要: An apparatus for recovering components of a material system containing dye, water, and solvents such as ethylene glycol monobutyl ether and diethylene glycol is provided. The apparatus comprises in sequence: a first vessel including a cooling device for cooling the material system; a pump; at least one first filter; at least one purifying vessel containing activated carbon; optionally, a second filter; and a second vessel optionally including a probe. Each of the first vessel, purifying vessel, filter housings and baskets, second vessel and interconnecting piping are fabricated of a material which does not absorb dye, such as stainless steel.

    摘要: A process for tinting of articles molded from a polymeric resin is disclosed. Preferably, the article is molded from polycarbonate and the process entails immersing the molded article in a dye bath that contains water, dye, a carrier and an optional surfactant. The carrier is a compound conforming to R1[—O—(CH2)n]mOR2  (i) wherein R1 and R2 independently denote H or C1-18 alkyl, benzyl, benzoyl or phenyl radical which may be substituted in the aromatic ring by alkyl and or halogen, preferably R1=butyl, R2=H, n is 2 or 3 and m is 2 to 35. The method is especially useful in the manufacture of tinted lenses.

    摘要: A gamma radiation-resistant polycarbonate-disulfide resin is disclosed. The incorporation of disulfide linkages in the structure of polycarbonate was found to enhance the resistance of the resin to the discoloration caused by exposure to gamma radiation. Accordingly, processes for the incorporation of disulfide linkages in the molecular backbone, as end-groups or as side chains are disclosed. The polycarbonate-disulfide resin may be used as a molding resin in the context of thermoplastic molding compositions as well as a stabilizing additive in polycarbonate resin.

    摘要: A process for preparing a block oligocarbonate is disclosed. The oligocarbonate conforms to ##STR1## where R denotes hydrogen or ##STR2## and where A denotes an aromatic carbonate structure conforming to ##STR3## where Ar is an aromatic radical, n is 2-6 and where B is the residue of an aliphatic polyol is disclosed. In the process a high molecular weight aromatic polycarbonate is reacted, in the melt and in the presence of a catalyst, with an aliphatic polyol. The block oligocarbonate is useful as a reactant in a process for the preparation of copolymers.

    摘要: The present invention relates to compositions containing a polycarbonate including a bisphenol compound and an effective amount of a bishaloformate component present in an amount sufficient to reduce the average unbound bisphenol compound level found in water after immersion in deionized water for two weeks at 40° C. of the composition to less than about 20 ppb. Also provided are methods for increasing the water resistance of a polycarbonate composition. The method involves adding an effective amount of a bishaloformate component to the polycarbonate composition such that the polycarbonate composition has an average unbound bisphenol compound level found in water after immersion in deionized water for two weeks at 40° C. of less than about 20 ppb.

    摘要: A process for making a copolymeric resin is disclosed. Accordingly, component (a) and component (b) are introduced into an extruder under conditions designed to promote reactive blending therebetween in the presence of a transesterification catalyst. Component (a) is a wet aromatic polycarbonate resin containing moisture in an amount greater than 0.02 weight percent and having units conforming to ##STR1## wherein D is a divalent residue of a dihydroxy compound. Component (b) is a lactone-siloxane block copolymer having structural units conforming to ##STR2## wherein m is 1-90, n is 60-150, R is an alkyl or a phenyl radical, p is 2-12 and q is 2-20. Surprisingly, use of moisture-containing polycarbonate in the process yields a copolymer having good properties, although a corresponding process where the lactone-siloxane block copolymer reactant has a smaller number of repeating units yields inferior product.
