    摘要: A motorized cam actuator for linear actuation of an apparatus. An actuating motor shaft is fitted with a bushing having first and second opposed flats and a threaded portion at an outer end thereof. With the motor mounted to a pedestal, the bushing is rotated on the shaft to a predetermined angular position such that assembly stack up is cancelled. The bushing is then fixed to the shaft by welding. A cam with a central opening is mounted onto the bushing, the opening having flats for mating with the flats on the bushing. The cam is mounted onto the bushing and is secured thereto by a nut. This arrangement eliminates any relative motion between the bushing and the motor shaft and prevents stress on the weld joint from reaching failure levels.

    摘要: An engine fuel injector body is assembled using a furnace brazing method to provide structural and hermetic internal joints at interior locations with minimum size and processing. The method of assembling an injector with such an internal hermetic and structural joint may include the steps of providing an annular body member with an annular inner recess having an inner cylindrical surface, forming an annular end recess adjoining the cylindrical surface, fitting a tubular member into the inner recess of the body member with an outer surface of the tubular member engaging the cylindrical surface of the inner recess, placing a brazing ring in the end recess of the body member adjacent the tubular member, and furnace brazing the members together to form the internal hermetic and structural joint. Additional joints may be joined during the same brazing step.

    摘要: An injector valve armature/spacer is formed as an integral tri-function multiple thickness member for an engine fuel injector. The member includes an armature having a center portion with an upper side engagable by a biasing spring and an outer portion with spaced radial openings extending outward from the center portion. An outer rim is connected to the inner portion of the armature by flexible legs extending radially through the radial openings. The rim has a thickness greater than that of the armature by a differential dimension establishing a stroke of the armature. The legs have a thickness less than that of the armature to permit flexing of the legs upon movement of the armature. The integral member is designed for manufacture in multiple layers using electroforming, optionally combined with metal etching.

    摘要: An engine fuel injector (10) having a fuel inlet tube (12) and a biasing spring (56) loading a solenoid actuated injection valve (50) within the injector (10) is provided with a calibration assembly (58) combining the calibration member (74) or tube with an internally mounted fuel inlet filter (76). The calibration member (74) may include a body (78) with an enlarged end (88) that is interference fitted within the fuel inlet tube (12) and an opposite stepped in end (80) forming a seat (82) which is engaged by the biasing spring (56). The fuel filter (76) has an enlarged annular base (92) fixed within the enlarged end (88) of the calibration member (74) and having an associated filter screen (98) or element through which fuel passing through the calibration member is filtered for passage through the injector (10). The filter screen (98) may extend completely within the calibration member (74), or alternatively, can project outward from the enlarged end (86) of the calibration member (74) into the inlet end (86) of the fuel inlet tube (12). Advantages in the ease of calibration, reduced assembly costs and improved filtration of fuel are provided.

    摘要: A fuel injector that includes a flying armature movable relative to a pintle stop, and an electromagnetic circuit configured to move the flying armature away from the pintle stop prior to accelerating the armature toward the pintle stop as part of moving the pintle to open the fuel injector. The flying armature increases the total force applied to the pintle to open the fuel injector by supplementing the static force imparted to the armature by a magnetic field with an impact force imparted by the armature being in motion toward and impacting with the pintle stop. The arrangement of magnetic circuit devices and materials used to make the magnetic circuit devices cooperate to provide a reversing force that urges the armature away from before urging the armature toward the pintle stop, and increases the rate at which the force that urges the armature toward the pintle stop increases.

    摘要: A fiber optic light line unit provides a uniform linear beam of illumination onto a target, such as a traveling web. A number of fiber optic bundles have distal ends that are butted together end to end to create a long, seamless line of uniform strip lighting. The unit has a housing in which distal portions of the fiber optic bundles fan out so that the termini of the fibers are arrayed in a single continuous fiber row at a distal face plate of the housing. The ends of the row of each bundle abut the ends of the adjacent row from another bundle. In one embodiment the housing has first and second halves that sandwich the fiber termini, and there are respective sawtooth or similar recesses that each hold a respective fiber end or terminus. A cylindrical lens can be disposed with its axis across the linear beam of light. The fibers are held with their termini at a predetermined slant angle, e.g., thirty degrees, so that the light emanating from the unit impinges on a target at an angle. This reveals defects that may be oriented in the travel direction of the web.
