Abstract:
The present invention relates to a composition comprising a stable aqueous dispersion of crosslinkable polymer particles, a peroxidase enzyme, and a hydrophobic hydroperoxide having a 10-hour half life temperature of at least 100° C. The composition provides a robust one-pot peroxidase mediated cure for latex particles bearing a variety of polymerizable functional groups.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a composition comprising a stable aqueous dispersion of polymer particles, an oxidoreductase, and a cofactor for the oxidoreductase and a method for its preparation. The invention is useful for converting certain classes of VOCs to non-VOCs.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a coatings composition comprising an alkyd, a pigment, a rheology modifier, a radical producing oxidoreductase, and one or more additives, wherein the alkyd contains at least one C6-30—C(O)O— group having at least one diallylic group. The coatings composition of the present invention cures relatively rapidly without ancillary crosslinking agents and with minimal, if any, VOCs from solvents or coalescents.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to a composition comprising triethylene glycol disorbate and triethylene glycol monosorbate, at a disorbate to monosorbate weight-to-weight ratio of from 19:1 to 99:1. The composition of the present invention is useful as a low VOC coalescent in coatings formulations.
Abstract:
A method for monitoring microbiologically induced corrosion on metal surfaces in contact with a fluid. The method comprises adding to the fluid a silanol compound or silanol compound precursor having a group detectible by ultraviolet spectrophotometry or fluorescence spectroscopy, or which is isotopically enriched.
Abstract:
The present invention is a process for preparing a sorbate ester comprising the steps of: a) contacting together in a reaction vessel a first organic solvent, sorbic acid, a catalytic amount of TiC14, an anti-oxidant, and an alkylene oxide under conditions sufficient to form a mixture of the sorbate ester and residual water-soluble impurities; then b) separating the sorbate ester from the residual water-soluble impurities by washing. Sorbate esters can be prepared in an efficient and cost-effective manner by the process of the present invention.
Abstract:
The present invention is a process for preparing a hydroxyalkyl sorbate comprising the steps of of: a) contacting together in a reaction vessel a solvent, sorbic acid, a transition metal halide catalyst, an anti-oxidant, and an alkylene oxide under conditions sufficient to form the hydroxyalkyl sorbate; b) removing the solvent in vacuo, wherein the anti-oxidant is characterized by the following formula or a carboxylic acid salt thereof: wherein Y, x, and R1 are defined herein. The process of the present invention provides a convenient way of preparing hydroxyalkyl sorbates in high yield and purity without complicated workup steps.
Abstract:
The present invention is a composition comprising a stable aqueous dispersion of polymer particles and a sorbate ester, which is a liquid at 20° C. and has a molecular weight in the range of 125 to 500 g/mol. The composition of the present invention provides a way to enhance film formation of coatings prepared using relatively high Tg latexes without the aid of high volatile organic content (VOC) coalescents.
