Abstract: A highly functional semiconductor device is provided. The semiconductor device includes a first transistor and a second transistor. The first transistor includes a first semiconductor layer, a first gate electrode, a first electrode, and a second electrode. The second transistor includes a second semiconductor layer, a second gate electrode, a third electrode, and a fourth electrode. The first gate electrode and the second gate electrode are connected to each other, and the second electrode and the third electrode are connected to each other. A first insulating layer, a second insulating layer, and a second semiconductor layer are stacked over the first semiconductor layer. The first insulating layer is less likely to diffuse hydrogen than the second insulating layer. The second insulating layer contains oxide, the first semiconductor layer contains polycrystalline silicon, and the second semiconductor layer contains a metal oxide. The first transistor is a p-channel transistor and the second transistor is an n-channel transistor.

Abstract: A display apparatus having a noncontact input function is provided. The display apparatus has a first function of detecting, with a light-receiving device, light irradiated from a light source outside a display portion and blocked by a pointing object to recognize the position pointed by the pointing object, and a second function of detecting, with the light-receiving device, light irradiated from a light source inside or outside the display portion and reflected by the pointing object to recognize the position pointed by the pointing object. The display apparatus can operate by switching the first function and the second function in accordance with the intensity of the light irradiated from the light source outside the display portion.

Abstract: A semiconductor device including a biometric recognition function and a touch sensor or near touch sensor function is provided. The gate driver circuit includes a plurality of first register circuits and second register circuits whose number is less than that of the first register circuits. The first register circuits are connected with each other in series and the second register circuits are connected with each other in series. The gate driver circuit has a function of operating in the first mode and the second mode. In the first mode, the first register circuits are in the on state and the second register circuits are in the off state, and in the second mode, the second register circuits are in the on state and the first register circuits are in the off state.

Abstract: Provided is a highly reliable semiconductor device. The present invention relates to a shift register circuit including a plurality of stages of sequential circuits. An output signal of a sequential circuit is input to a sequential circuit in the subsequent stage. Before a sequential circuit outputs a signal and after the sequential circuit outputs the signal, the potential of a gate of a transistor included in the sequential circuit is changed in accordance with a clock signal so as to avoid voltage stress application between the gate and a source of the transistor for a long time.
