    Abstract: An electric power steering system includes an electric motor including a motor output shaft. The system also includes a worm operatively coupled to the motor output shaft. The system further includes a worm gear in contact with the worm and operatively coupled to an auxiliary shaft. The system yet further includes a drive gear operatively coupled to the auxiliary shaft. The system also includes a driven gear in contact with the drive gear and operatively coupled to an input shaft to drive a manual recirculating ball steering gear.

    Abstract: A steering assist system of a steering column assembly is provided. The system includes a worm rotatably driven by an actuator. The system also includes a worm gear having a first set of teeth and a second set of teeth, the first set of teeth in meshed engagement with the worm, the worm gear operatively coupled to a steering shaft. The system further includes a lock feature moveable into and out of engagement with the second set of teeth of the worm gear to define a locked condition and an unlocked condition of the worm gear.

The first gear rotates about a first axis, and includes a first plurality of teeth and a first surface extending circumferentially and carried by the first plurality of teeth. The first surface is electrically conductive. The second gear rotates about a second axis and is operably connected to the first gear. The second surface is electrically nonconductive.     Abstract: A redundant gear assembly for a vehicle steering column includes a gear operatively coupled to a steering column component. Also included is a first and second set of gear teeth on the gear. Yet further included is a first motor driving a first gear input component, the first gear input component in meshed engagement with the first set of gear teeth to provide a first steering assist torque that is representative of a desired steering assist torque in a primary operating mode of the redundant gear assembly. Also included is a second motor driving a second gear input component, the second gear input component in meshed engagement with the second set of gear teeth to provide a second steering assist torque in a redundant operating mode of the redundant gear assembly, the second motor not driving the second gear input component in the primary operating mode.
