摘要: An apparatus for continuously cooling a heated metal plate lying horizontally, which comprises: an upper cooling water ejecting means, arranged above the metal plate in parallel to the width direction thereof, for ejecting cooling water onto the upper surface of the metal plate; a water tank, arranged below the metal plate, for receiving cooling water; and a lower cooling water ejecting means having a lower cooling water ejecting bore, arranged in the water tank in parallel to the width direction of the metal plate. The lower cooling water ejecting means ejects, in the form of a jet stream, cooling water from the lower cooling water ejecting bore together with cooling water received in the water tank, onto the lower surface of the metal plate. The above-mentioned jet stream is surrounded by a jet stream guide duct arranged between the lower cooling water ejecting means and the lower surface of the metal plate.

摘要: A silicon single crystal manufacturing apparatus according to the CZ method which includes a partition member for dividing a quartz crucible into a single crystal growing section and a material melting section and having at least one small hole for permitting the passage of molten silicon, and a heat keeping cover for covering the partition member and the material melting section. The heat keeping cover is made of a sheet of metal selected from the group consisting of Ta, Mo and W and containing Fe 50 ppm or less and Cu 10 ppm or less. The metal sheet includes a surface layer composed of a silicon-enriched layer, and the depth of an area of the silicon-enriched layer in which the content of Si is greater than the contents of Fe and Cu at the same position therein is not less than 10 .mu.m from the surface. The content of Fe in the silicon-enriched layer is not greater than 5 ppm. Thus, this is the apparatus for manufacturing silicon single crystals, being very low in oxidation induced stacking fault (OSF) density.

摘要: A system for measuring and controlling the concentration of an emulsion, wherein a measuring pipe included in an emulsion feed line is fitted with an emulsion concentration-detecting device; the ultrasonic wave transmitter of the concentration-detecting device sends forth ultrasonic waves into an emulsion running through a circulation line so as to be caught by an ultrasonic wave receiver; the concentration-detecting device generates an output signal corresponding to the velocity with which ultrasonic waves are propagated from the ultrasonic wave transmitter to the ultrasonic wave receiver, utilizing the fact that the velocity of said propagation is substantially proportional to the concentration of an emulsion flowing through the circulation line, and also delivers an output signal corresponding to temperature variation from a detection terminal through a transducer to a circuit for correcting the measured concentration of the emulsion according to temperature variation in view of the fact that the propagation velocity of the emulsion varies with temperature; and said concentration-correcting circuit generates a control signal exactly corresponding to the actual concentration of the emulsion by correcting an output signal from the concentration-detecting device which denotes the measured propagation velocity of ultrasonic waves, thereby controlling the concentration of the emulsion to maintain a prescribed level throughout the circulation line.

摘要: Molten metal is put under pressure of up to 10 atmospheres in a covered ladle and a gas soluble in the metal is bubbled through the melt. Some gas goes into solution, while the remainder rises in bubbles and brings inclusions suspended in the molten metal up to the surface. Then the pressure is lowered, after which gas comes out of the solution in fine bubbles which also bring impurity inclusions up to the surface. In another method molten steel is refined at pressures not exceeding atmospheric pressure in a covered ladle equipped for evacuation and equipped for bubbling gas through the molten steel bath. Bubbling followed by pressure reduction can then be performed to form two stages of cleaning. Heat may be added for compensating the cooling effect of gas expansion. Instead of a closed ladle, an open ladle may be used, into which there can be dipped a chamber fitted for evacuation and having two large tubes at opposite sides of the chamber extending downwards to orifices that may be lowered into the molten metal in the ladle. The melt is then drawn up into the chamber by atmospheric pressure as the chamber is evacuated. Then bubbling may be performed in one connecting tube by injection of gas from the bottom of the ladle, or at a mid-level of the tube, to produce circulation of the molten metal up into the chamber and down through the other tube.
