Abstract: A method of producing a plastic lens having a cured coating layer, comprising the steps of: forming an uncured coating layer from a photocurable coating composition comprising at least a) a photochromic compound, b) a radically polymerizable monomer and c) a photopolymerization initiator on one surface of a plastic lens; and irradiating the plastic lens having the uncured coating layer with light from an LED having an emission peak wavelength of 350 nm or more to less than 450 nm from above the outer surface of the uncured coating layer to cure the uncured coating layer.

Abstract: The optical article of the invention contains a photochromic compound, and a first compound having an absorption peak in a wavelength range of 550 to 600 nm, has a laminate structure in which (A) a first functional layer containing at least a photochromic compound and (B) a lens substrate independently exist, has a luminous transmittance of 30% or more in the state with no photochromic compound coloration, has a luminous transmittance of 25% or less in the state with photochromic compound coloration, and has a minimum transmittance of 0.1 to 20% in a wavelength range of 550 to 600 nm, in a state with photochromic compound coloration. According to the invention, there is provided a novel photochromic optical article exhibiting excellent photochromic properties, visibility and anti-glare properties, and further having a high contrast (red, green and blue can be clearly differentiated and the outline and protrusions/recesses of objects are clear).

According to the present invention, it is possible to provide a curable composition for an optical material which has an ability to cut ultraviolet rays and blue light and can be suitably used as a coating material having good storage stability and weather resistance.
