A pair of first and second air fuel ratio detectors are disposed in an exhaust system at locations upstream and downstream of the three-way catalyst for detecting a first and a second air fuel ratio of an exhaust gas. A target oxygen change amount calculator calculates a target oxygen change amount of the three-way catalyst, and an oxygen change amount calculator calculates an oxygen change amount of the three-way catalyst from an amount of exhaust gas passing through the three-way catalyst and the first air fuel ratio. An air fuel ratio operator inversely controls the air fuel ratio to a rich side and a lean side with a prescribed air fuel ratio width each time the oxygen change amount reaches a target oxygen change amount.

During a period from the start of cranking to occurrence of complete explosion in the engine starting phase, the fuel injection quantity charged to individual cylinders on a cylinder-by-cylinder basis and the ignition timing for igniting the fuel are properly set for each of the individual combustion strokes taking place sequentially among plural cylinders. An optimal combination of the fuel injection quantity and the ignition timing is realized for thereby producing required torque just enough in the individual combustion strokes.

    摘要: At the time of start-up, fuel supply is made excessive. When air-fuel ratio feedback control is started while the fuel is excessive, the control is put into a state of overshoot or hunting, and it takes a long time to converge to the target air-fuel ratio. In an air-fuel ratio control apparatus, a selection switch is provided at the output of an integration calculation circuit to perform air-fuel ratio feedback control, and immediately after start-up of the engine, an upper/lower limit clip value for use immediately after start-up, which is smaller than a normal one, is selected to perform the air-fuel ratio feedback control. Even if the air-fuel ratio feedback control is started immediately after the start-up in a state where the fuel is excessive, the actual air-fuel ratio does not overshoot with respect to the target air-fuel ratio and is quickly converged to the target air-fuel ratio.
