    摘要: A control apparatus for an internal combustion engine can detect degradation of a three-way catalyst with high accuracy without causing deterioration in an exhaust. A pair of first and second air fuel ratio detectors are disposed in an exhaust system at locations upstream and downstream of the three-way catalyst for detecting a first and a second air fuel ratio of an exhaust gas. A target oxygen change amount calculator calculates a target oxygen change amount of the three-way catalyst, and an oxygen change amount calculator calculates an oxygen change amount of the three-way catalyst from an amount of exhaust gas passing through the three-way catalyst and the first air fuel ratio. An air fuel ratio operator inversely controls the air fuel ratio to a rich side and a lean side with a prescribed air fuel ratio width each time the oxygen change amount reaches a target oxygen change amount.

When diagnosing degradation of the ternary catalyst, the downstream air-fuel ratio feedback control unit is stopped or its control constant is set at a smaller value. Thus, when varying the air-fuel ratio for diagnosing catalyst degradation, interference between downstream air-fuel ratio feedback and upstream air-fuel ratio feedback is prevented and catalyst degradation is accurately diagnosed.

    摘要: An apparatus for controlling starting of an internal combustion engine is arranged to reduce exhaust emissions and emission variations at engine startup. The starter is driven after a lapse of the predetermined period of time from the moment at which an engine starting command is operated, so that the engine can be started when sensors and actuators attached to the engine are in optimum conditions, thereby reducing exhaust emissions and emission variations. Also, after the engine has been cranked by driving the starter, the starter is stopped after a lapse of the predetermined time from the moment at which the number of engine revolutions becomes equal to or larger than a predetermined number of revolutions. Therefore the engine can be reliably set in a suitably started condition before the starter is turned off even if the engine is in a particular condition, e.g., an extremely-low-temperature condition such that combustion in the engine is unstable and the engine can stall easily.

The fuel pressure lowering means is designed to lower pressure of the fuel within the fuel supply pipe (22) after the stoppage of operation of the engine (1) in dependence on an estimated fuel temperature determined by the fuel temperature estimating means.

When air-fuel ratio feedback control is started while the fuel is excessive, the control is put into a state of overshoot or hunting, and it takes a long time to converge to the target air-fuel ratio. In an air-fuel ratio control apparatus, a selection switch is provided at the output of an integration calculation circuit to perform air-fuel ratio feedback control, and immediately after start-up of the engine, an upper/lower limit clip value for use immediately after start-up, which is smaller than a normal one, is selected to perform the air-fuel ratio feedback control. Even if the air-fuel ratio feedback control is started immediately after the start-up in a state where the fuel is excessive, the actual air-fuel ratio does not overshoot with respect to the target air-fuel ratio and is quickly converged to the target air-fuel ratio.
