Abstract:
A process for the purificationof 1,1,1-tris(4'-hydroxyphenyl)ethane by washing a crude admixture containing both it and impurities with a saturated solution of 1,1,1-tris(4'-hydroxyphenyl)ethane in water and methanol; and isolating the washed crude admixture from the effluent and dissolving the washed crude admixture in methanol, and adding water and sodium borohydride to the dissolved, washed crude admixture to form a precipitate of 1,1,1-tris(4'-hydroxyphenyl)ethane, and filtering the precipitate to form a resultant purified 1,1,1-tris(4'-hydroxyphenyl)ethane and a filtrate. Another embodiment of the invention provides iteratively repeating the process by washing an additional crude admixture batch with the filtrate from a prior purification.
Abstract:
A liquid crystal cell having a chamber for receiving a layer of liquid crystal material which chamber is defined by a pair of plate members joined together adjacent their edges by a substantially continuous glass solder seal characterized by the glass solder seal being provided in the form of one or more glass fibers which are interposed between the plates and fused to form the glass solder seal. To facilitate positioning the one or more glass solder fibers, positioning means are provided on one surface of one of the plates and may be protruberances which are formed either by crystallizing glass solder, or by laser bombardment of the one surface. To facilitate the obtaining of the desired spacing between the plates, each of the glass fibers may have a core which may be either hard glass or a metal such as gold which core is surrounded by a lower melting glass so that during fusion of the fiber, the core remains substantially unmelted. In another embodiment, the glass fibers contain a material, such as being impregnated with CuO, which will absorb infrared radiation so that during the method of forming the cell, the step of heating to fuse the fibers includes subjecting the fibers to infrared radiation after preheating the assembled plates and fibers.
Abstract:
A liquid composition comprising a GLP-1 agonist or/and a pharmacologically tolerable salt thereof, an insulin or/and a pharmacologically tolerable salt thereof, and, optionally, at least one pharmaceutically acceptable excipient, wherein the composition comprises methionine, as add-on therapy with metformin where appropriate.
Abstract:
A method for producing a series of base lenses, which cover a predetermined power range, wherein each base lens of the series has a base power different from the base powers of the other base lenses of the series, and has at least one diffractive base grating, the method comprising: specifying the base powers of each base lens of the series and calculating the base grating of each base lens of the series so as to minimize the color fringe of the respective base lens with the specified base power in a predetermined region of the spectacle lens.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method, a computer program product and a system for designing or producing a spectacle lens for a spectacle wearer. Said method consists of the following steps: individual user data or application data of the spectacle wearer is obtained; the design concept for the spectacle lens having a plurality of evaluation points is determined; a main beam path through the plurality of evaluation points is determined; a local wavefront is specified for each of the main beams in the surroundings of the respective main beam; optical properties of the spectacle lens are determined on the evaluation points by determining an influence of the spectacle lens on the local wavefronts in the surroundings of the respective evaluation point; and the design concept is evaluated in accordance with the determined optical properties and the individual user data.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to compounds of formula I wherein R1a to R1e, R2, R3 and R5 are as defined in the description and claims and R4 signifies a bicyclic heteroaryl group or a cyanophenyl group, as well as pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. The compounds are glucocorticoid receptor antagonists useful for the treatment and/or prevention of diseases such as diabetes, dyslipidemia, obesity, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, adrenal imbalance or depression.

Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for producing a progressive spectacle lens and to a corresponding apparatus, a computer program product, a storage medium and to the use of a progressive spectacle lens. The invention also relates to a method for producing a progressive spectacle lens for correcting defective vision of a spectacle wearer, comprising the following steps: the vertical and/or the horizontal spatial position of a distance reference point and/or a near reference point is specified or determined in accordance with individual data of the spectacle wearer; the spectacle lens is optimized or calculated such that the required dioptric effect of the spectacle lens is obtained in the individually determined distance reference point and/or the near reference point.

The present invention relates to compounds of formula I wherein R1a to R1c, R2, R3 and R5 are as defined in the description and claims and R4 signifies a bicyclic heteroaryl group or a cyanophenyl group, as well as pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. The compounds are glucocorticoid receptor antagonists useful for the treatment and/or prevention of diseases such as diabetes, dyslipidemia, obesity, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, adrenal imbalance or depression.
Abstract:
The present invention relates in summary to a method for checking and/or determining user data of a spectacle lens user comprising the steps of:—providing (S1) subjective data of a spectacle lens user, wherein the subjective data comprise at least subjective refraction data;—providing (S2) objective refraction data of the spectacle lens user;—comparing (S3) at least one subset of the subjective refraction data with at least one subset of the objective refraction data and determining a comparison result;—matching (S3) at least the subset of the subjective refraction data to the objective refraction data on the basis of the comparison result under the assumption that the comparison result fulfills at least one predetermined comparison condition, otherwise maintaining at least the subset of the subjective refraction data and/or—providing a message containing the comparison result, and to a further method, a computer program product and two devices for checking and/or determining user data.
