Abstract:
A document processing device having an evaluation region disposed along a transport path between an input and output receptacle capable of processing both currency bills and identification cards. An evaluation unit enables entry of source identification information before or after processing currency bills. Memory is adapted to store source identification information for multiple batches of currency. Multiple batches are placed in the processing device for multiple batch processing. The evaluation region includes detectors for detecting predetermined characteristics of currency bills and distinguishing identification cards from currency. During processing, the identification card, or other separator card, is sent to a predetermined output receptacle designated as a reject receptacle. Currency that is rejected is sent to the reject receptacle. Rejected currency is separated into batches by the identification cards sent to the reject receptacle during processing.

An apparatus for currency discrimination comprises first and second stationary scanheads, disposed on opposite sides of a bill transport path, for scanning respective first and second opposing surfaces of a bill traveling along the bill transport path and for producing respective output signals. The bill travels along the transport path in the direction of a predetermined dimension of the bill. A memory stores master characteristic patterns corresponding to associated predetermined surfaces of a plurality of denominations of genuine bills. Sampling circuitry samples the output signals associated with the respective first and second opposing surfaces of the scanned bill. A signal processor is programmed to determine which one of the first and second opposing surfaces corresponds to the associated predetermined surfaces of the plurality of denominations of genuine bills. The processor then correlates the output signal associated with the one of the first and second opposing surfaces corresponding to the associated predetermined surfaces with the master characteristic patterns to identify the denomination of the scanned bill.
Abstract:
A quick connect coupling for a battery watering system is disclosed. The coupling has a housing with inlets and outlets, each having a collar with a tapered bore. A collet having flexible fingers attached to a ring is axially movable within the collar. The fingers have inwardly pointing teeth positioned distally to the ring. The collet receives a conduit coaxially. The teeth engage the outer surface of a conduit when it is inserted into the housing through the collet. The teeth grip the conduit and are forced into engagement with it by engagement of the fingers with the tapered bore of the collar when force is applied to withdraw the conduit from the housing. The teeth are preferably made of plastic.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing specialized alloys having specific properties and an alloy made using this method. The methods involve the use of micro and/or nano-sized particles that are mixed into an alloy using a friction stir welding method. The micro and/or nano-sized particles are used to alter one or more characteristics of the alloy in the locations in which the micro and/or nano-sized particles are added. The micro and/or nano-sized particles may be metal particles, non-metal particles, or a combination thereof.

An apparatus determines how well a semiconductor wafer (4) is clamped to a support member (1). The apparatus has at least one ultrasonic transducer (2a,2b,2c,2d) configured to emit ultrasonic energy (3) toward an interface between the water (4) and the support member (1) so that the interface generates echo signals, and a data processing unit (11) configured to analyze the echo signals to arrive at a determination as to how well the semiconductor wafer (4) is clamped to the support member (1before semiconductor process is started. A first method ensures that a wafer (4) is securely clamped to a support member before a semiconductor process is started. A second method verifies proper de-clamping of a semiconductor wafer (4) from a support member (1) before the semiconductor wafer (4) is removed from the support member (1) upon completion of a semiconductor process.

A materials handling vehicle is provided comprising: a base; a carriage assembly movable relative to the base; at least one cylinder coupled to the base to effect movement of the carriage assembly relative to the base; and a hydraulic system to supply a pressurized fluid to the cylinder. The hydraulic system includes an electronically controlled valve coupled to the cylinder. The vehicle further comprises control structure to control the operation of the valve such that the valve is closed in the event of an unintended descent of a carriage assembly in excess of a commanded speed.

A ram guidance system for a stamping press is provided including an outer bush mounted to a portion of the stamping press. The outer bush has a central passageway sized and arranged so that a reciprocating ram extends through the passageway. An inner bush is coaxially mounted to the outer bush and a portion of the rod, with an anti-friction bearing assembly positioned between the outer bush and the inner bush so as to guide their relative movement. In another embodiment of the invention, a metal stamping system for operating a die set is provided that includes an outer bush mounted to a portion of the stamping press. The outer bush includes a passageway sized and arranged so that a ram extends through the passageway so as to be enclosed by the outer bush. An inner bush is coaxially mounted to (i) the outer bush and (ii) a portion of the ram, with an anti-friction bearing assembly positioned between the outer bush and the inner bush so as to guide their relative movement. Tie rods may be used to form a supporting structure of the press.

Design and manufacture of floor covering webs for, design, manufacture and installation of, asymmetrical carpet tiles having a prominent design element not intersected by a tile edge. Bands or regions define “frames” around what will become central carpet tile areas so that design elements positioned within the frames will not be intersected by a tile edge and may also be at least a predetermined distance from each tile edge. Design elements also may be positioned differing distances from each of at least one pair of opposed tile edges.

A document processing system comprises an input receptacle for receiving documents. A transport mechanism receives the documents from the input receptacle and transports the documents past an image scanner and a discrimination unit. An output receptacle receives the documents from the transport mechanism after being transported past the image scanner and the discrimination unit. The image scanner obtains an image of the documents, obtains an image of a selected area of the documents, and obtains information contained in the selected area of the document. The discrimination unit determines the authenticity of the document. A system controller directs the flows of documents over the transport mechanism.
