    摘要: A method and apparatus for substantially preventing recirculation of heated air from an exhaust outlet of an expansion card to an air inlet of the expansion card, wherein the air inlet and exhaust outlet are both on the same end of the chassis. The apparatus comprises a chassis with a chassis fan, a motherboard within the chassis having an expansion card connector, and an expansion card in communication with the expansion card connector and secured to the front end of the chassis. The expansion card also includes a card fan configured to move cooling air through the air inlet to the exhaust outlet. An air duct redirects the hot air from the exhaust outlet to prevent recirculation into the expansion card and causes the heated air to exit through the chassis fan. The air duct may include a longitudinal segment through a computer module and a lateral segment selectively securable over the exhaust outlet.

    摘要: A system and apparatus to mount devices to a rack is disclosed. Embodiments may comprise mounting hardware configured to adaptively accommodate attachment features of a rack to mount devices such as servers to the rack. A device attachment member may couple with the device, and some of these device attachment members may comprise a bent portion to facilitate coupling the device to vertical members of a rack. Many device attachment members may have in place of or in addition to the bent portion, a slide attachment member and rack attachment slidably coupled with the device attachment member to provide tool-less attachment of the device to the rack via pins. These rack attachments may also adaptively accommodate attachment features such as round openings, square openings, and/or threaded openings of a vertical member of the rack and may advantageously provide a threaded member to secure the device attachment member to vertical members.

    摘要: An integrated cooling and retention bracket is detachably coupled to a computer processor cartridge having a heatsink mounted thereto. The bracket is U-shaped with a cross-bar and a short, perpendicular arm on each end of the cross-bar. The lower end of each arm acts as a hinge for an upward-turned extension on the outer side of each arm. Each extension has a rounded knob at its tip and an outward protruding tooth therebelow. An integrally formed, cooling fan mounting structure is located on top of the cross-bar. The mounting structure has two side panels with a central opening therebetween for holding a conventional cooling fan, which is snap mounted inside the central opening. The cartridge and bracket assembly is installed in a retention mechanism on a printed circuit board. The teeth on the bracket snap into holes in the posts in the retention mechanism to electrically interconnect the processor cartridge to the circuit board. With the assembly installed in the retention mechanism, the fan is located directly adjacent to the cartridge for cooling the processor. The concave surfaces of the end wall and the baffle direct airflow from the fan along the entire width heatsink to maximize the cooling capability of the fan.

    摘要: An apparatus comprising a chassis providing a plurality of module bays, one or more modules received in the module bays, wherein each module has at least one damper actuator extending from a distal end of the module. A fan assembly and a plurality of air flow dampers are secured in a distal end of the chassis, wherein each damper is aligned with one module bay to control air flow through the aligned module bay. Each damper is biased to close in the absence of contact with a damper actuator and opens in response to contact with a damper actuator. Each damper opens to a variable extent determined by the profile of the contacting damper actuator. The damper actuator of a particular module has a profile corresponding to the thermal load of that module, such that installing a module into the chassis automatically opens the aligned damper to the desired extent.

At least one of the modules is a compute module having a thermal sensor disposed to sense the temperature of air flowing across a processor mounted on a motherboard. The system further comprises a fan controller receiving output from the thermal sensor, wherein the fan controller operates the fan assembly to cool the plurality of modules and maintain the thermal sensor output within an operating temperature range. The fan controller controls the fan speed according to predetermined thermal profile settings associated with one of the compute modules received in the chassis. For example, the predetermined thermal profile settings may include a minimum fan speed, a maximum fan speed, and control loop feedback settings.

The frame has a plurality of spring fingers interconnected about a perimeter of a central opening in the frame, wherein each spring finger defines a central axis that extends outwardly away from the central opening. The frame may include a substantially planar portion adjacent the central opening in the frame, wherein the plurality of spring fingers incline along the central axis to extend out of the plane defined by the substantially planar portion. The incline of the spring fingers allows a mounting bracket to slide laterally without jamming against the side of a spring finger during installation, removal or side-to-side shifting of the mounting plate.

    摘要: A computer system includes a housing that is divided into three compartments; two fan compartments, each containing a fan, and a third compartment containing heat generating electronic components. The air discharged from the fans flows through outlets in the fan compartments and into the third compartment to cool the electronic components. A single baffle is rotatably coupled between the two fan compartments using a vertically oriented hinge. When one of the fans fails, the air pressure from the working fan rotates the baffle until it covers the outlet of the fan compartment containing the failed fan. This enhances the flow of air from the working fan into the third compartment, and restricts the reverse flow of air through the dead fan compartment. When both fans are functioning, air pressure from both fans moves the baffle to a "midway" or "neutral" position, such that the air from both fans flows into the third compartment.
