Abstract:
A method and system of reachability indication between a wireless device and at least one push server, the method comprising the steps of: sending device status information from the wireless device to the at least one push server; and receiving the status information at the at least one push server; wherein the at least one push server is enabled to selectively start and stop serving the wireless device on the basis of the status information. The method further comprises sending status information to a packet data serving node that stores a list of push servers associated with a wireless device, and having the packet data serving node forward the status information to the push server. The system and method further includes selectively starting and stopping the serving of the wireless device by the push server during a voice call.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for expeditiously releasing network resources for a mobile station based on low battery and lost signal conditions are disclosed. The wireless network (104) receives a power down warning message from the mobile station (102) indicative of a low battery condition. The wireless network (104) then identifies whether a lost signal condition exists with the mobile station (102). In response to receiving the power down warning message and subsequently identifying the lost signal condition, the wireless network (104) causes network resources for the mobile station to be released. The wireless network (104) infers that the mobile station (102) has powered down due to low battery without enough time to send a power down registration to the wireless network (104).
Abstract:
A method at a mobile device for increasing measurement gaps to facilitate inter-radio access technology measurements is provided. The method at the mobile device: receiving inter-radio access technology (RAT) measurement configuration information from the network; when the device is actively connected, determining whether a triggering criterion is met, based on the received information; and if the triggering criterion is met, increasing the time available for measurements.
Abstract:
One illustrative method of for use in controlling network resources in a wireless network involves assigning, from a pool of IP addresses, a temporary IP address for a mobile station in the wireless network; calculating a ratio or percentage of the number of IP addresses and the total number of IP addresses in the pool; setting a timer value for the mobile station to an initial value that depends on the ratio or percentage of IP addresses such that, as the ratio or percentage increases, the initial value decreases; causing the temporary IP address and the timer value to be sent to the mobile station, which is adapted to register the temporary IP address with a home agent for IP mobility service; and communicating a termination request which terminates the IP mobility service if no request for re-registration is received from the mobile station upon expiration of the timer value.
Abstract:
A method is provided for managing a priority call in a serving cell. The method comprises, when a priority call is in progress in the serving cell, performing at least one of preventing at least one non-priority call from being handed over into the serving cell and preventing at least one non-priority call from being initiated in the serving cell.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for dynamically modifying the quality of service (QoS) provided to a mobile communication device are disclosed. In one embodiment, a mobile communication device comprises a secure channel driver operable to establish a secure tunnel between the mobile communication device and a remote network via a wireless network, the secure tunnel operable to support multiple sockets opened therein; a first application operable to communicate with the remote network via a first socket within the secure tunnel and associated with a first QoS; a second application operable to communicate with the remote network via a second socket within the secure tunnel and associated with a second QoS, different from the first QoS; a QoS monitor operable to identify when the second QoS is appropriate to support the second application; and a QoS modification module operable to request the second QoS from the wireless network.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for sending an event from user equipment operating in a mobile network, the method comprising the steps of: monitoring whether an unrelated opportunistic event has occurred; and sending said event with said unrelated opportunistic event.
Abstract:
A method and network element to control use of a transition indication message by a user equipment, the method including an inhibit transition indication in a configuration message; and sending the configuration message with the inhibit transition indication to the user equipment. Also, a method and user equipment for sending a transition indication, the method setting a timer according to an inhibit transition indication received from a network element; detecting that a data transfer is complete; and sending the transition indication upon detecting that the timer is not running.
Abstract:
Generally, the present invention provides a method for detecting poor RF conditions, and entering different sleep mode levels or phases in accordance with the RF conditions to save battery power. Mobile device battery life can be conserved when the mobile device detects poor RF conditions and enters a deep sleep mode of operation. In this deep sleep mode of operation the mobile device periodically samples the RF conditions and gradually increases the period between samples when the RF conditions do not improve. Because mobility can change the RF condition for wireless devices even in areas of good RF coverage, the mobile device operating in the deep sleep mode can detect this mobility and thus enhance the probability of entering an idle state, or alternatively, entering a longer power save mode. When the RF condition improves, the mobile device exits from the deep sleep mode and returns to the idle state.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for the selection of an emergency number in a mobile station having a geographic indicator, the method comprising the steps of and the apparatus characterized by means for: determining whether a user is attempting to reach an emergency service provider; and if the user is attempting to reach an emergency service provider, connecting to a network if the mobile station is not already connected to a network; looking up an emergency dial string in a look-up table based on the geographic indicator and the network connected to; and sending the emergency dial string.
