摘要: This is a method and apparatus for accurately determining a NOx concentration of a measurement gas that contains H2O and/or CO2, without being affected by a dissociation of H2O and/or CO2. In this method and apparatus, (1) the NOx-measurement gas containing H2O and/or CO2 is introduced to travel through a heated flow channel formed by an oxygen ion conductive solid ceramic electrolyte body that electrically control amount of O2 from the flow channel, (2) while said measurement gas travels, a residual gas including NO and H2O and/or CO2 is formed from the measurement gas, (3) said residual gas is flowed to contact a catalytic electrode to which a negative polarity of a low voltage that does not dissociate H2O and/or CO2 but dissociates NO is applied, so that said electrode dissociates a NO gas of the residual gas into N ions and O ions and flows an electric current through the electrolyte body in proportion to an amount of the O ions dissociated from said residual gas at the electrode, and (4) the NOx concentration in the measurement gas is determined based on the current. The low voltage preferably applied in the above (3) is about 350-450 mV.

摘要: Method and sensor for measuring accurate measurement of NOx concentration in an exhaust gas containing O2,H2O, CO2 and NOx and a NOx gas concentration sensor. A first oxygen pump cell sufficiently pumps out oxygen in a measurement gas such as not to decompose NOx. A pair of electrodes is provided on an inner side and an outer side of a second measurement chamber into which the gas is introduced from a first measurement chamber via a diffusion resistance. A voltage is impressed across the paired electrodes for decomposing NOx in the second measurement chamber to dissociate oxygen which causes the current to flow in a second oxygen ion pump cell. The NOx gas concentration is measured for this current. The voltage impressed across the paired electrodes of the second oxygen ion pump cell is set so as not to dissociate H2O and CO2 present in the second measurement chamber.

摘要: A gas sensor includes an element case 42 with an internal peripheral surface formed as a taper surface 100. A portion of a housing section 43 surrounded by the taper surface 100 and a protective film 48 is filled with a filler 49. When the filler 49 thermally expands at high temperature, the filler 49 is subjected to a component of force in an upward direction by the taper surface 100. Therefore, projection of an element portion 44 involving deformation of the protective film 48 is suppressed, a change ΔL of a propagation distance L to a reflecting section 33 is also suppressed, and a detection accuracy never decreases. In addition, reverberation is reduced.

摘要: A plasma jet ignition plug including a wire-wound resistor for restraining the radiation of noise while allowing application of a sufficiently large current for generation of plasma to a spark discharge gap at the time of ignition. The wire-wound resistor having an inductance of 1 μH to 100 μH inclusive and a resistance of 1Ω or less, and is provided on at least one of a center electrode and a ground electrode. The wire-wound resistor restrains current which is generated by the influence of stray capacitance present in the plasma jet ignition plug, thereby reducing noise.

摘要: A plasma jet ignition plug including an insulator having an axial hole extending therethrough in the direction of an axis CL1, a center electrode inserted into the axial hole, and a ground electrode disposed frontward of the front end of the insulator. The insulator has a cavity defined by the wall surface of the axial hole and the front end surface of the center electrode and opens frontward. The ground electrode has a through hole for establishing communication between the cavity and an ambient atmosphere. A front end portion of the center electrode is formed into a taper portion whose diameter reduces frontward in the direction of the axis CL1. The outside diameter of a front end of the taper portion is smaller than the diameter of the through hole. The cavity has a substantially constant diameter with respect to the direction of the axis CL1.

摘要: A liquid-condition detection element is provided which exhibits good sensitivity while having appropriate strength. The detector element forms part of a liquid-condition detection sensor in which breakage of the detection element is combated and which can accurately detect the condition of liquid. The detection element includes first and second ceramic insulating layers formed by simultaneous firing and a heat-generating resistor sealed in a liquid tight manner between the insulating layers. The resistor has a resistance varying with temperature, and is, in use, immersed in liquid. The first insulating layer is thinner than the second layer. A detection section of the liquid-condition detection sensor detects the condition of a liquid (e.g., the concentration of a particular component in the liquid) on the basis of an output signal from the heat-generating resistor.
