Abstract: An apparatus configured to fog test eyewear includes an environmentally controlled chamber, a head form disposed within the chamber, a radiator disposed within the chamber, the radiator connected to a liquid cooling system, and a humidifier device configured to deliver a flow of warm moist air towards the frontal portion of the head form and a surface of the eyewear. A camera is disposed within the head form, the camera aligned with a first opening in a frontal portion of the head form and configured to detect a target image within the chamber while the flow of warm moist air is delivered. A processor is configured to calculate a contrast difference between a background of the target image detected by the camera and resolution bars of the target image detected by the camera, plot a contrast ratio from the calculated contrast difference against a known calibration standard and calculate a performance measure of an anti-fog device of the eyewear.

Abstract: One example is a shock gauge system for measuring an external blast to a hull. The shock gauge system includes at least one accelerometer to produce acceleration data in response to the external blast, a mass with an accelerometer affixed to it, a crush block, a linear displacement potentiometer (LDP), a camera, and a processor logic. The LDP device generates displacement data of a mass being pushed into the crush block when reacting to the external blast. The camera captures images of movement of the mass. The processor logic verifies if the acceleration data is valid by correlating the acceleration data to the displacement data, the images, and/or an amount of displacement into the crush block by the mass. When the acceleration data is valid, the acceleration data may be used to create a more blast resistant hull.

Abstract: Apparatuses and systems are provided. For example, in one embodiment of apparatus an upper back-plate includes shoulder supports and a connector. The apparatus also includes an articulating spine adapted to connect to the upper back-plate connector. The articulating spine includes a plurality of vertebra. Each vertebra a longitudinal bore. Some vertebra is adapted to mate with another vertebra Compressible discs are provided having a bore adapted to reside on each vertebra. A lower back-plate includes a receiving portion adapted to one end of the articulating spine. A chord interconnects each vertebra by insertion of the chord through the vertebrae bores, a bore in the upper back-plate, and a bore in a lower back-plate. The lower back-plate is adapted to connect to a hip mounted belt. Other embodiments are provided that include apparatuses and systems having features similar to the system described above.

Abstract: The present invention is a pyrotechnic time delay system that is improved over prior-art designs. Specifically, the system described herein comprises at least one delay element. The delay element or delay dements each have an input charge, a delay composition, and an output charge. Both the input charge and the output charge are igniter compositions and are comprised of the same components despite having different functional goals. The input charge and output charge compositions preferably contain titanium, manganese dioxide, and polytetrafluoroethylene. The delay composition may be modified from current formulations to include manganese and manganese dioxide, or tungsten and manganese dioxide. The system disclosed herein may be comprised of one delay element, or it may be modular wherein multiple delay elements are connected in series.

Abstract: A method of fabricating a liquid crystal polymer film includes providing a support substrate having a surface having a shape arranged to define a form of a liquid crystal polymer film to be fabricated; applying a layer of a photoaligning material over the surface of the support substrate, the photoaligning material having an absorption band; exposing the layer of photoaligning material to a light having a linear polarization and the light comprising a wavelength within the absorption band to convert the layer of photoaligning material into a layer of photoaligned material; applying a layer of a polymerizable liquid crystal over the layer of photoaligned material; performing photopolymerization of the layer of polymerizable liquid crystal to form a liquid crystal polymer film; applying a solvent to the layer of photoaligned material, the solvent formulated to dissolve the photoaligned material to thereby release the liquid crystal polymer film from the support substrate; and removing the liquid crystal polymer film from the support substrate.
