The invention relates to an edge trim for pieces of furniture, comprising a meltable layer. In order to improve a generic edge trim such that the same is more versatile and can especially be mounted on a wider selection of surfaces, the molecular structure of the meltable layer contains both polar and non-polar parts.

A furniture arrangement is formed of vertical panels and a horizontal furniture panel which are joined together. The vertical panel comprises a main panel body having the opposite vertical edges thereof enclosed by vertical trim elements, and the horizontal top edge enclosed by a horizontal trim element. For decorative purposes, an additional decorative inlay is provided adjacent and parallel to the trim elements, which inlay is formed of a second, aesthetically different inlay material, such as extruded aluminum or other metal. The horizontal furniture panel may include similar trim elements which further include additional decorative inlays.

A steel two skin worksurface configuration is disclosed. The worksurface configuration includes a metallic core matrix including spaced coplanar top lands defining a first bearing surface of the core matrix and spaced coplanar bottom lands defining a second bearing surface parallel to the first bearing surface. A bridging structure connects the top lands and the bottom lands. The bridging structure has throughholes arranged around top lands and arranged inline between top lands and adjacent bottom lands. The bridging structure includes saddle shaped regions between adjacent top lands and between adjacent bottom lands. The worksurface configuration also includes a metallic top sheet bonded to the top lands, and a metallic bottom sheet bonded to the bottom lands. An edge treatment configuration having an edge channel that is bonded to a perimeter area of the bottom sheet is also disclosed. The edge channel receives various edge members. A system for mounting components, such as legs, to the worksurface configuration is also disclosed.

The invention involves a rail and stile door panel of the type typically used for kitchen cabinets or utility storage cupboards. The door system includes a rail and stile framework in which a panel is mounted. The panel is held in place by a panel recess in one of the frame members and at least one key received in another of the frame members. The key has a tang which fits in a keyway. The panel is received in a panel recess comprised of horizontal and vertical abutment faces. The panel can be removed, replaced or interchanged by removing the key. Upon removal of the key, the panel may be removed from the frame. If the panel is finished on both side, the panel may be reversed. If it is desired to use some other type of panel then a replacement panel may be installed in the frame. Preferably the system includes three keys to support the retained panel all along its perimeter edge.

A process and machine are provided to manufacture furniture parts and the like with a unique, durable, low gloss finish which has a soft, satin feel, and imparts a monolithic appearance to the part. A blank cut from a suitable substrate material is grooved about its marginal edge to a depth near the opposite surface of the blank. A liquid edge protection material is poured into the groove and fully cured. The blank is then cut through at the filled groove to create a decorative protective strip about the marginal edge of the blank. The formed blank is next coated with a selected paint or base material. After the base coat is cured, a layer of UV curable, protective material is applied to the painted surfaces of the blank. The UV coated blank is then translated through a multi-stage, continuous feed, ultraviolet processor to selectively and sequentially cure the protective coat. Powered rollers arranged in spaced apart groups convey the parts through the processor. UV light sources are located above and below the rollers, vertically in line with the spaces between adjacent roller groups, and have selectively oriented reflectors which contemporaneously and uniformly radiate all of the UV coated surfaces of the blank to form a mar-resistant, low gloss protective coat, which together with the base coat, imparts a soft feel, and monolithic appearance to the finished part.

Structural and decorative boards laminated with a hard plastic veneer are given a relief appearance by forming a rabbeted groove, preferably rectangular in outline, and mounting therein tapered laminated strips having a thickness along one edge substantially corresponding to the depth of the groove and along the opposite narrow edge being substantially flush with the base of the groove. The entire panel thus presents a relief configuration while the exposed surfaces are covered by the plastic veneer. The panels may be used for doors used in kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities and the like.
