Abstract:
A carton blank folding and gluing system having a feeder unit, a variety of units, a gluing unit, a stacking unit and belts for continuously conveying carton blanks to the units. The carton blanks are of various types and sizes. The system operates to move only the attachments required for folding or gluing the carton blank to predetermined positions in the units and to retract attachments not required for folding or gluing the carton blank. A control device is provided, in which the predetermined positions of all of the attachments required for folding or gluing the carton blank are automatically determined, stored and outputted by receiving a signal representative of the type of carton blank and signals representative of the dimensions of particular parts of the carton blank.
Abstract:
A storage bag with soaker pad, and a material and method for making same. The bag of the invention includes a bag having a front and rear panel of a plastic film, the front and rear panels being closed at one end to form a bottom of the bag, the bag being open at the opposite end for receipt of goods to be stored in the bag, a fluid absorbing pad located inside the bag, and an enclosure connected to the inside of the bag for containing the fluid absorbing pad. The material of the invention comprises a bag film connected to a perforated enclosure material with a plurality of soaker pads sandwiched between the two layers. The width of the perforated enclosure material is substantially less than the width of the bag film whereby the soaker pads are continued to a limited space near the center of the material that creates the bottom fold of the resulting bags formed from the material. The method of making the bag of the invention includes a continuous supply of bag film be fed forwardly towards a bag machine. In unison with the movement of the bag film a layer of perforated enclosure material containing a plurality of soaker pads is connected at its edges to the bag film thereby sandwiching the storage pads between the two layers. The bag panels, enclosure, and soaker pad could be treated with antimicrobial agents for suppressing microorganisms that may be found in the liquids emanating from the goods stored inside the bag.

Abstract:
An apparatus for constructing multi-piece carton pre-forms, comprising a wrap member supply hopper, a wrap/pre-form conveyor, a glue station, a web placement and compression station including a web supply magazine and a reciprocating placer, and an output station. The apparatus processes paperboard pre-forms which are subsequently erected into cartons for fresh produce and the like. An improved packaging member conveyor is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A device for detaching a portion from the main part of a blank and for reattaching the portion to another zone of the main part, includes gripping and pushing means for gripping and moving the portion of the blank, while supporting means support the main part of the blank with the portion free to move downwards. Operating means drive the gripping and pushing means while gluing means apply glue on the surface of the portion to be attached to the main part of the blank.
Abstract:
An improved apparatus for and method of making laminate articles is described. The invention is particularly useful in making bookcases of the type including relatively stiff front and back cover backing sheet members and a flexible spine backing sheet member. One edge of each of the stiff and flexible backing sheet members is substantially aligned with one another, with the flexible backing sheet member precisely centered between two stiff backing sheet members. The substantially aligned edges are registered with respect to an edge of a sheet of material and the outer opposing edges of the stiff backing sheet members are precisely spaced from one another and registered with respect to a second adjacent edge of the sheet of material. The members are then brought into contact with and laminated to the sheet of material. The improvements include feeding, cutting and supporting mechanisms for the flexible spine sheet member.
Abstract:
A turret assembly for use in a container manufacturing apparatus which comprises a rotatable hub, at least one arm extending radially from the rotatable hub and having a medium reception portion thereon for transferring and inserting at least one medium to a location between a first and second portion of container material.
Abstract:
A protective device for use with a container inhibits ingress of unwanted materials into the container's handhold opening while permitting insertion of a hand for grasping the handhold opening. The protective device comprises a mounting panel sized greater than the handhold opening and having a portal formed therein. A first adhesive material is located on a first side surface of the mounting panel and secures the mounting panel in a secured state to a wall in the interior of the container with the portal positioned over the handhold opening. A deadening material is disposed on a selected area of the first adhesive material to inhibit the adherence of the mounting panel to a portion of the wall which confronts the deadening material, and an exclusion panel has a surrounding outer peripheral margin portion and is sized and configured to have a panel size greater than the size and configuration of the handhold opening. A container having such a protective device is also provided.
Abstract:
A protective device is adapted for use with a handhold opening of a container to inhibit ingress of unwanted materials into the interior while permitting insertion of a hand for grasping the handhold opening. The protective device comprises a panel piece having a surrounding peripheral edge and a surrounding peripheral margin adjacent to this edge. A panel piece is sized and configured to have a panel size greater than the selected size and configuration of the handhold opening so that the margin portion is securable to the container wall to position and secure the panel piece in a secured state with the panel piece positioned over the handhold opening. A first adhesive material secures the margin portion to the wall in an area surrounding the handhold opening. Preferably, a second adhesive material is disposed proximately to the peripheral edge and spaced-apart from the first adhesive material. The second adhesive operates to releasably tack the peripheral edge of the panel piece to the wall when in the secured state.
