Abstract:
A device for aligning box blanks in a box blank processing machine including a frame supporting a lengthwise guiding rail, an upper carrier and lower carrier which are directly interconnected by brackets and have one end pivotably mounted to the frame adjacent an exit end of the device so that the entrance end of the carriers can be spaced from the rail to provide a lateral movement of a blank against the rail. The position of the entrance end of the carriers is adjustable relative to the guide rail. The upper carrier preferably is formed of a series of rollers and the lower carrier has a series of rollers supporting a belt which is driven by a drive pulley.
Abstract:
A selection and setting apparatus in box or carton blank erecting machines which enables changing of the blank format in the machine. The apparatus includes format selectors coating with at least two setting wheels. The setting wheels each include at least two pins which are of different lengths enabling settings for different formats. The free ends of these pins contact coacting stops arranged on the erecting tool or carton blank magazine in the machine which are movably settable to the blank size in question.
Abstract:
According to the invention a dust-proof reinforcing sheet material is provided. The sheet material is applied over and around a handling opening of a box. The sheet material comprises a base sheet having through-holes punched out, an adhesive layer applied on one side of the base sheet and an elastic film applied on the other side of the base sheet. The elastic film is stretchable five times as the original size and is transparent or translucent to allow light rays to transmit therethrough. The light rays passed through the elastic film and the throughhole is sensed by photo-sensor to cut the sheet material at a pre-set position.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method of producing a protective device that is adapted for use with a container in order to inhibit ingress of unwanted materials through a handhold opening in a wall of the container. The method includes a first step of advancing a first strip of material in a longitudinal direction from an upstream location to a downstream location. As this first strip of material is advanced, it is longitudinally scored after which a second strip of material is secured to the first strip of material such that the second strip is sealed around a discrete consecutive portion of the scoring. Thereafter, an adhesive material is applied to a side surface of the first strip opposite the second strip. The joined first and second strips are then cut into individual units with portions of the first and second strips in each unit being sealed completely around the periphery thereof. The method can include further steps of applying a deadening material to the adhesive material on the side surface of the first strip opposite the second strip. Moreover, the step of scoring the first strip may be accomplished by continuously scoring the first strip as it is advanced in the downstream direction. This step of scoring may also be accomplished by scoring the first strip with a plurality of parallel, spaced-apart longitudinally extending score lines. The step of securing the second strip to the first strip may be accomplished by fusing the first and second strips together.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method are disclosed for serially and automatically folding and gluing container body blanks, with optional lamination of a liner to the body blank prior to folding and gluing thereof. The apparatus includes a blank conveyor arrangement which intermittently advances a body blank along a horizontal straight-line work path through the apparatus. Arrangements are provided for applying adhesive to a flap portion of the body blank, folding the body blank about spaced parallel score lines thereof, and applying pressure to the blank to form a so-called manufacturer's joint at the flap portion. The present apparatus further includes an arrangement for advancing an inner liner into the apparatus in a direction transverse of the body blank work path, with an arrangement provided for maintaining the liner in a horizontally fixed stopped position above the blank work path, and for subsequently lowering the liner into superposition on a container body blank prior to folding and gluing of the blank.

Abstract:
The disclosed apparatus and method automatically secures three substantially planar sheet members in registration with respective portions of a sheet of material such that (1) one of the sheet members is centered between the other two, (2) the outer oppositely disposed edges of the other two are mutually spaced from one another by a predetermined distance as well as precisely positioned with respect to a first edge of the sheet of material, and (3) another edge of each of the other two sheet members is substantially aligned with the other and with an edge of the center sheet member, all of the aligned edges of the members being precisely positioned with respect to a second edge of the sheet.
Abstract:
An apparatus for attaching insert panels to carton blanks including a carton blank conveyor for moving carton blanks along a predetermined displacement path; a carton blank folder positioned at a fixed station along the displacement path for folding a leading end panel portion of each passing carton blank for providing an abutment surface for engaging a carton insert panel; an insert panel applicator positioned at a fixed station along the displacement path for applying an insert panel to each passing carton blank; a registration assembly for urging a leading edge portion of each insert panel into abutment with the abutment surface on each folded leading end panel portion.
Abstract:
A guide for a sheet aligning station for lateral positioning of a sheet includes a supporting surface mounted on a belt to support the trailing edge of a sheet and a roller extending slightly beyond the supporting surface to contact the sheet edge and reduce friction between the guide and the sheet during crosswise shifting of the sheet, for example by a lateral guiding ruler.
Abstract:
An aligning device including an upward straightening appliance consisting of a row of levers equipped with rollers, said levers being mounted for pivoting around a horizontal axis relative to a base member, said base member being mounted for pivotable movement around a vertical axis on a longitudinally extending member, each of the base members being connected by a flexible member to a corner piece shiftable relative to the longitudinally extending member to cause pivoting of all of the base members around their vertical axes, a lower straightening appliance consisting of a driven endless belt supported on rollers arranged vertically aligned to the axes of the upper rollers, an arrangement for biasing the upper rollers against a blank carried on said belt and a lengthwise aligning rail adjustably positioned relative to the upper and lower straightening appliances.
