    摘要： A modified glue flap of a folding carton blank for preventing glue from being squeezed out during the step of adhering the glue flap to the opposite end panel. The face of the glue flap engaged by the glue back-up wheel includes a protrusion near the trailing edge of the flap. Engagement of the protrusion by the back-up wheel causes the glue wheel to skip the trailing area of the flap. The absence of glue in this area prevents glue from being squeezed out when sealing pressure is subsequently applied to the glue flap and the opposite end panel. The protrusion may take the form of an embossed ridge, forming a channel on the opposite side of the protrusion for receiving any excess glue which would have been squeezed out.

    摘要： A machine for and a method of manufacturing folded containers, especially folded blanks. The machine has a mechanism for applying adhesive, a folding station, and a pressure-application station with pressure-application mechanisms for forcing the adhesive-coated seams together to seal them. The invention ensures that, when the machine is stopped, all the blanks to which adhesive has been applied but which have not yet been folded to form sealed seams are automatically marked or rejected. The machine has both a marking or rejecting mechanism downstream of the pressure-application station and computerized controls that, when the machine is stopped, determine the number of folded blanks in the production line between the adhesive-application mechanism and a first pressure-application mechanism in the pressure-application station and, once the machine is started again, control the marking or rejecting mechanism.

A bonding station is adjacent the second station (60) for applying bonding agent to the tabs (24, 25). The third station (80) lifts and folds the remaining two flaps (19, 22) against associated ones of the side panels (13, 16). First and second holding and conveying means (51, 52 and 70, 71) for conveying the blank (12) through the apparatus.

    摘要： A method and apparatus for folding a flat container blank about parallel score lines to bring a glue flap on the blank into juxtaposed relationship with respect to a side panel of the blank. Gripping mechanisms are associated with an intermittently operated conveyor means for pulling a blank past a glue applying station, into the folding station, and into a compressing station where the manufacturers' joint is set. Release means is provided for opening the gripping mechanisms downstream of the compressing station, and a following set of gripper mechanisms push the freed blank from the machine. Further conveyor means may be associated with the apparatus for feeding a liner to the blank to produce a laminated folded and glued blank.

    摘要： Blanks which are made of cardboard or the like and wherein the neighboring panels are flexible relative to each other are converted first into flat tubular preforms which are thereupon expanded prior to a change of orientation and introduction into a filling machine. The conversion is carried out on a horizontal support during stepwise transport of successive blanks along a stationary elongated one-piece flat pattern having progressively narrower portions at several successive deforming stations. At the first deforming station, a lap which is integral with one outermost panel of each blank is flexed relative to the respective outermost panel; at the second deforming station, the lap and the respective outermost panel are folded over the adjacent portion of the pattern; and the other outermost panel is bonded to the lap at the third deforming station. The width of the pattern at the first deforming station equals the combined width of three neighboring panels, and the width of the pattern at the second and third deforming stations equals the combined width of two neighboring panels. The thus obtained flat tubular preforms are expanded at an additional station where the width of the pattern equals the width of a single panel.

    摘要： A carton bottom breaker for performing a prebreaking operation on the panels of a bottom closure structure of a coated paperboard carton mounted on a carton forming mandrel. A movable carrier member has a V-shaped breaker means fixed thereon which comprises a pair of outwardly sloping folder plates for operative engagement with the fold-over panels of the bottom closure of a carton. A spring biased V-shaped breaker plate member is movably mounted on the carrier member between the sloping folder plates in a plane transverse to the V-shape formed by the folder plates, and it is adapted to engage the fold-in panels of the bottom closure of a carton. A mandrel stop finger is carried by the V-shaped breaker plate member for abutment with the carton mandrel, in an off-center position, to prevent damage of the mandrel by engagement with the V-shaped breaker means and V-shaped breaker member.
