    摘要: Various systems and methods are provided for power generation using buoyancy-induced vortices. In one embodiment, among others, a vortex generation system includes a nucleating obstruction; an array of vanes distributed about the nucleating obstruction, the array of vanes configured to impart an angular momentum on air drawn through the array of vanes to form a columnar vortex over the nucleating obstruction; and a set of turbine blades positioned over the nucleating obstruction, the set of turbine blades configured to extract power from the columnar vortex. In another embodiment, a method for power extraction from a buoyancy-induced vortex includes establishing a thermal plume; imparting angular momentum to boundary layer air entrained by the thermal plume to form a stationary columnar vortex; and extracting power from the stationary columnar vortex through turbine blades positioned within the stationary columnar vortex.

    摘要: This invention relates to a Compressed Air Turbine-Generator, or CAT-G that will enable the ability to manage energy gathered from ecologically friendly sources, such as solar and wind power. Compressed Air Energy Storage, (C.A.E.S.), is a promising mode of clean energy storage. A major challenge facing this technology is the need to efficiently convert the compressed air energy into electricity. Conventionally, high-pressure air is used only to improve the efficiency of a conventional jet powered turbine generator. The focus herein is on a new technology that efficiently converts the energy stored in compressed air directly into electrical power without producing greenhouse byproduct gases or other pollutants. This new capability will add important flexibility to the optimization of ecologically friendly energy systems.

The portion of the surface is crystalline graphite. At least one of the magnetic field source and the body of graphite is movable relative to the other for movement of the at least one of the magnetic field source and the body of graphite relative to the other to cause the magnetic field in the surface portion of the body of graphite to vary to induce eddy currents in the body of graphite and heat the body of graphite.

    摘要: A design of a power plant which uses hydrocarbon fuels in conjunction with solar power to produce electricity. The power plant consists of an array of heliostats for concentrating sunlight on a central solar receiver. The heat energy thus gathered is used to create steam which runs a steam turbine. Steam to run the steam turbine can alternately or modularly be obtained from the exhaust gas of a turbo-burner and fuel added to a furnace. The solar energy gathered may be stored as hot fluid in a thermal storage tank or used immediately in the power plant. A thermal shield may be employed over the solar central receiver to insulate the solar central receiver, provide leak and fire protection and shield the solar central receiver from solar radiation.

    摘要: An apparatus for converting solar energy may have a heat-capturing element that generates thermal energy when exposed to solar radiation and a canopy arranged about the heat-capturing element. The canopy may define a chamber with an intake and an output, and may be configured for substantially trapping air particles in proximity to the heat-capturing element throughout a pathway from the intake to the output. A portion of the chamber arranged near the output may have a decreased cross section. The apparatus may also include a thermal transfer system configured for creating a positive thermal feedback between a portion of the heat-capturing element near the output and a portion of the heat-capturing element near the intake, and at least one horizontal turbine arranged at the output.
