Abstract:
An image communication apparatus includes an unit for obtaining a threshold value that determines a coding format used for transmission of an image stored for the transmission from an information of the image stored for the transmission; and a transmission controlling unit that transmits the image stored for the transmission using a JBIG format if a size of the image stored for the transmission exceeds the threshold value, and transmits the image using a coding format having a compression ratio lower than that of the JBIG format if the size of the image stored for the transmission does not exceed the threshold value.
Abstract:
A method for processing non-standard facilities frames by T.38 gateways, wherein the T.38 gateways includes at least one transmitting gateway and at least one receiving gateway, the transmitting gateway is connected with a transmitting facsimile machine, and the receiving gateway is connected with a receiving facsimile machine. The method includes: a) the transmitting gateway and the receiving gateway determining the types of all received V.21 frames; b) when the receiving gateway or the transmitting gateway receives a non-standard frame NSF, modifying the non-standard frame NSF, so that the corresponding receiving facsimile machine or transmitting facsimile machine is unable to receive a correct NSF frame; c) the receiving gateway encapsulating the modified NSF frame data, or the transmitting gateway modulating the modified NSF frame data and transmitting the modulated frame data. The method modifies the rate negotiation performed with proprietary frames as a negotiation performed with standard frames.
Abstract:
Methods are provided for an apparatus which encodes items of data by variable-length coding and which stores the encoded items of data in a memory, wherein a size of one of the items of encoded data is variable by varying a value of a control parameter of the variable-length coding. One method includes: determining an amount of available memory space in the memory; determining a value of the control parameter for the variable-length coding of the items of data; and determining a number of items of encoded data that can be stored in the available memory space, based on an upper limit of the size of one of the items of encoded data at the determined value of the control parameter.
Abstract:
In one aspect, a method related to data management includes but is not limited to accepting input for designation of a first portion of a data stream for retention at a first resolution, wherein the data stream represents video and/or audio information: and accepting input for designation of a second portion of the data stream for retention at a second resolution, wherein the second resolution is less than the first resolution, and wherein the retention of the second portion of the data stream at the second resolution is to be performed if a condition is met. In addition, other method aspects are described in the claims, drawings, and/or text forming a part of the present application. Related systems are also disclosed.
Abstract:
The present invention relates generally to signal processing of media content, e.g., audio or video content. One form of signal processing derives identifying information from media content. One claim recites a method including: upon encountering audio or video content, and using a programmed electronic processor, attempting to derive identifying information from data representing the encountered audio or video content; if a digital watermark is not obtained from the data representing the encountered audio or video content, modifying the encountered audio or video content; and then attempting to attempting to derive identifying information from data representing the modified audio or video content. Of course, other claims are provided too.

Abstract:
In order to reduce the data amount of image data while preventing degradation of image quality, an MFP includes an image data acquiring portion to acquire image data, a region extracting portion to extract regions having predetermined attributes from the image data, a selecting portion to select one of the extracted regions, a reduction portion to reduce the data amount of the image data by processing the selected region in a manner predetermined for the attribute of that region, and a comparing portion to compare the data amount of the image data after reduction of the data amount with a predetermined target value, in which the selecting portion selects the regions one by one until the comparing portion determines that the data amount of the image data is equal to or less than the target value.
Abstract:
An image processing apparatus enables efficient use of an image memory area according to processing contents set by a user. A CPU searches destinations set sequentially, and makes for each destination an image area information generating decision for searching for a destination that generates an image a printer section possibly output. After completing the image area information generating decision for all the destinations, the CPU decides whether the image area information is to be generated or not in the end. When it decides that the image area information is to be generated, it sets a compression rate of a compression expansion circuit of an image compression expansion section at a higher value, and simultaneously enables the output of the image area data buffer. When it decides that the image area information is not to be generated, it sets the compression rate of the compression expansion circuit of the image compression expansion section at a lower value, and simultaneously disables the output of the image area data buffer.
