摘要:
The present invention relates to a core assembly for use in an air-to-air heat exchanger. The core is comprised of a plurality of square plates. Each plate is comprised of a square planar central region; a first pair of opposed edge flanges bent in a first direction with respect to the central region to form approximately 90 degree angle with the central region; and a second pair of opposed edge flanges bent in a direction opposite the first direction with respect to the central region to form approximately 90 degree angle with the central region. The core is formed by the plurality of square plates that are positioned into a stack of parallel plates such that the opposed flanges of one of the plurality of plates is located in contact with and inside mating opposed flanges of a plate directly adjacent thereto, thereby forming a plurality of air passages between adjacent plates such that two perpendicular air pathways are formed in an interleaved orientation. A frame is provided in contact with a bottom plate in the stack and a top plate in the stack for holding the plurality of plates in position.

Heat exchanger packs having a first set of passageways for receiving a stream of ambient air and a second set of passageways for receiving a stream of warm water laden air is disclosed. The first set of passageways and second set of passageways being separate and permitting the warm water laden air stream to be cooled by the stream of ambient air so that water can condense out of the warm water laden air stream. Cooling tower configurations including the heat exchanger pack are disclosed for achieving effluent plume abatement, and capture of a portion of the effluent for replacement back into the cooling tower reservoir or as a source of purified water.

An improved air-to-air, heat-and-moisture exchanger is described which facilitates the simultaneous transfer of both heat and water vapor between two streams of air while greatly inhibiting the transfer of pollutant gases. A rigid encasement supports a stack of flat, thin-film composite membranes that are held in parallel, spaced-apart relation, thereby forming a box-shaped exchanger. The membranes are synthesized by interfacial polymerization, a process whereby a thin, non-porous film may be uniformly deposited onto a porous substrate material. The thin film is hydrophilic so as to provide high water vapor flux together with excellent selectivity against the transfer of other gases and vapors. The substrate provides mechanical support. Each of the parallel sheets of composite membrane in the stack separates two continuously flowing streams of air, one comprised of the air being exhausted from a building and the other comprised of the fresh air brought in to replace the exhausted air, thereby providing simultaneous heat transfer and moisture transfer between the streams while selectively restricting the transfer of the pollutant gases found in the exhaust air.

The invention relates to a plate heat exchanger, which comprises a plurality of plates (1) arranged to the side of each other, each plate consisting of two metal sheets (2,3), which are welded one to the other along two parallel edges and have longitudinal bulgings in parallel with said edges. The invention has the object to produce a plate heat exchanger where the medium flowing within the plate is guided in a direction in parallel with the extension of the bulgings and back in the same direction. Each plate (1) is formed with a turning zone in that the bulgings in pairs meet in such a manner, that in the sheet plane two outermost bulgings meet along a semicircle line, thereafter the two bulgings next to the outermost ones, a.s.o., and the number of bulgings is an integer number.

A thin sheet heat exchanger is provided which facilitates the transfer of heat between two flowing streams of gas. The heat exchanger is formed of a packing of rectangular heat exchange plates positioned by the method of the present invention separately and parallelly to one another. The packing realizes a crossflow channel pattern for the two gas streams. The heat exchange plates which compose the bulk of the heat exchanger are, by the method of the present invention, folded at two opposite sides. The plates are stacked as prescribed by the method of this invention, and seamweld (or equivalent) sealed along the folded sides of each pair of consecutive plates, thus forming individual gas channels. Also by the method of the present invention gasket sealing surfaces and flange mounting surfaces are realized by the said folds of the said heat exchange plates.A heat exchanger system can be constituted by a plurality of said heat exchangers assembled, by the method of the invention, to relaize a desired combination of flow patterns.

A heat exchanger having a number of sheets retained in spaced relationship with one another by projections outstanding from the sheet surfaces. Some at least of the sheets are provided with return flanges and the arrangement is such that return flanges of a sheet lie contiguous with an adjacent sheet so as to define therewith a fluid flow passage. The flanges of the next adjacent sheet are angled with respect to those of the first to define a second passage which extends in a different direction. Two sets of passages are formed thereby and the sheets constitute heat transfer means between adjacent passages. Each set of passages forms a fluid flow conduit. The pack is formed without cementing or welding the sheets together.
