    摘要: A personal air cooling apparatus includes a main housing having a hollow interior that houses a water-retaining sponge in a first chamber and a motor-driven fan in a second chamber. A partition wall separates the chambers and is apertured so that air pulled into the first chamber flows through the sponge and through the aperture into an air passageway that leads to an air outlet vent that directs a strong flow of cooled air onto the user. The first chamber has a depth less than a depth of the sponge so that an empty space is provided between the partition wall and the sponge. The empty space facilitates flow of ambient air through the sponge and reduces the load on the motor. The personal air cooling apparatus is compact and light-in-weight so that it can be carried by a user.

An evaporative air cooler of the air handler has an air permeable pad extending across the chamber and a fluid spray system for maintaining a moist condition of the pad. The spray system is constructed and arranged to discharge cooling fluid spray patterns covering the upstream side of the pad in a plurality of predefined zones, and further includes a plurality of moisture sensors positioned at predetermined locations adjacent to the downstream side of the pad. A controller is responsive to sensed moisture conditions for controlling the activation and deactivation of the spraying mechanism to maintain at least a preselected moisture content in the pad.

    摘要: A water treatment device f or use with evaporative coolers provides treatment of the water supply for such coolers. The device may be installed in series with the cooler in the water supply line and does not require any modification to the evaporative cooler itself. The device has a central housing having an interior divided by a longitudinal baffle, which provides a water inlet side and a water treatment side. A chemical insert, preferably formed to closely fit the interior of the treatment side, is installed in the treatment side of the device, and water is caused to flow from the water supply line to the inlet of the device, downward through the inlet side, and then upward through and past the chemical insert in order to provide maximum exposure of the surface of the insert to the water to be treated. The treated water then f lows through an outlet and then through to the evaporative cooler. The chemical insert preferably includes one or more salt compounds for the prevention of mineral deposit buildup in the pads of the evaporative cooler, but may include antibacterial and/or fungicidal agents, scents, etc.

    摘要: A method of cooling air and a cooling apparatus is disclosed wherein primary air is passed through at least one primary chamber to provide secondary air at an outlet of the primary chamber. Secondary air is passed in a counterflow direction through at least one secondary chamber which is in heat exchange relationship with the primary chamber. An evaporative fluid is applied to the secondary air and optionally to a downstream portion of the primary air in the primary chamber. This causes cooling of the downstream portion of the primary air and of the secondary air and of the evaporative fluid and simultaneously causes cooling of the primary air in the primary chamber by reason of the heat exchange relationship between the primary and secondary chambers. A turbulent boundary layer can be created in the secondary air by introducing a portion of the primary air directly into the secondary chamber from the primary chamber.

    摘要: Improved water distribution troughs are disclosed for use in the cooler pad assemblies of evaporative coolers. The troughs are provided with a primary channel and at least one secondary channel both of which are coextensive in a side-by-side relationship longitudinally of the trough and both are provided with multiple water outlets. The coextending plural channels provided in the troughs results in improved water distribution capabilities so that they can be used to overcome the water distribution problems of the large cooler pad assemblies used in industrial size evaporative coolers. The troughs can also be used in the relatively small pad assemblies of residential size evaporative coolers with such use providing overflow protection in the event of restricted water outlet flow resulting from mineral deposition and the like.
