Abstract:
A machine for the trimming of a pipe bend held in a die in a machine frame has two hydraulic rams mounted at 45.degree., the piston rod of each ram carrying one of a pair of rotary cutting devices for trimming respective ends of the pipe bend. Under the two hydraulic rams there are arranged, each on a respective inclined guide way and likewise at an angle of 45.degree. in the machine frame, movable swarf or burr removing chamfering devices moving to bring their rotary cutter head coaxially into engagement with a respective trimmed end of the pipe bend.
Abstract:
An elbow forming apparatus having a forming arbor with an exterior groove for accommodating a tube. A movable mandrel assembly, including a wiping member, is disposed opposite the arbor and has a further groove which cooperates with the arbor to confine the tube therebetween. An elongated rodlike mandrel is slidably inserted into the free end of the tube, after the latter has been fed into a position adjacent the arbor. The mandrel assembly is mounted on a first support structure which is rotatably supported on a second support structure, the latter being slidably supported on a third support structure which is rotatably supported on a frame for rotative movement. A cam-and-follower connects the mandrel assembly to the arbor so that, upon swinging movement of the third support structure, the mandrel assembly and the associated wiper is swingably moved around the arbor which causes a simultaneous and substantially linear retraction of the mandrel from the tube accompanied by a simultaneous bending of the tube about the arbor. The groove formed in the arbor preferably includes an intermediate straight portion joined between two bend portions, and the cam-and-follower maintains the mandrel assembly and the wiper closely adjacent the arbor during the swinging of the third support structure.
Abstract:
A machine for connecting workpieces, especially pipe bend segments or the like comprising a rotatable table for supporting the pipe bend segments which are to be interconnected and a working head having a pair of cooperating rolls for interconnecting contiguous ends of adjacent pipe bend segments, typically at abutting flanges, with one another. Adjustment means permit selectively changing the relative radial spacing between the working head and the rotatable table. Means coact with the rotatable table for elastically supporting the rotatable table in elevational position.
Abstract:
The present invention enables a manufacture of thickwalled fittings subjected to the effects of high temperatures, pressures and (or) aggressive media. Fittings manufactured according to the invention are designed for a high flow velocity. The formation of a curved fitting is effected by two pairs of dies, one thereof has flat working surfaces and the other, arcuate recesses. A tubular blank is successively reconstructed by said pairs of dies in the course of one or two strokes of a press.
Abstract:
The disclosure pertains to a compression fitting for connecting conduit to outlet boxes and the like in which the body member is made by a series of press forming operations on a tubular blank to define a central upset portion having a hex configuration, and roll formed threaded end portions of different external diameters in which the diameter of the tubular blank is equivalent to the pitch diameter of the large end of the completed body member, and an indentation is rolled into the blank adjacent its smaller end to define the maximum throat size of the fitting and a stop for the conduit when received in the body member larger end. In making the body member, the blank is made from mild steel tubing fed through a cut off machine in which the indentation is rolled into the tubing and the blank is formed by severing same from the tubing to include the indentation located adjacent one end of same, the ends of the blank are deburred, the said one end of the blank is necked down to approximately the indentation, the blank is upset intermediate its ends to define the hex configuration, and then the threads are rolled into the blank ends, after which the body member is suitably coated. The reduced end of the body member receives a conventional box engaging lock nut while the larger body member end is equipped with a clamp nut and cooperating gland for fixing the conduit to the fitting. Also disclosed is a special die arrangement for necking down and upsetting the fitting body member.
Abstract:
A method of fabricating an expansion joint embodying an inwardly facing U-shaped bellows member in which the corner portions of the joint are rounded and formed of united segments of oppositely facing plates having an arcuate portion produced by a spinning operation.
Abstract:
A SQUEEZE BENDING APPARATUS IN WHICH A TUBE BLANK, PREVIOUSLY FABRICATED WITH A RELATIVELY WIDE BEND, IS FORMED WITH A SHORT RADIUS TUBE BEND. AN INNER DIE IS OPERATIVELY CONNECTED BETWEEN A PAIR OF OUTER DIES FOR CONJOINTLY BRINGING THE DIES TOGETHER AT A UNIFORM RATE OF MOVEMENT SUCH THAT SHORT RADIUS BENDS CAN BE UNIFORMLY FABRICATED.
