    摘要: Disclosed herein is a portable frictional welding device whereby union of a metallic part with a given structure is accomplished by fastening said metallic part to the rotary shaft of the device supported slidably in the axial direction thereof, operating the rotary shaft so as to rotate the metallic part and at the same time pressing it against the structure and, when the point therebetween has assumed a state of fusion, stopping the rotation of the rotary shaft and simultaneously increasing the thrust being applied to said structure.

    摘要: A friction welding method and apparatus which monitors temperatures at the interface of ferrous and nonferrous metal products being welded and provides controls for insuring satisfactory welds and also provides automatic means of verification thereof as well as rejection of unsatisfactory welds. Light-sensing means is utilized to detect acceptable welding temperatures at the weld interface for initiating and controlling the welding or forging interval and application of forging pressures. Visible signal means is provided for indicating a faulty weld and mandatory operation of manual means is required for release of faulty welds. Automatic controls in the form of fluid pressure logic circuitry provides necessary interlocks and sequences of operation.

    摘要: This invention relates to joining a ring to a tube passing through the ring, for example, or for joining two pipes end to end by means of a ring. In one form of the invention the ring is radially compressed during relative rotation of the parts to be joined by a pressure substantially uniformly distributed around the ring to develop frictional heat and to cause penetration of the ring into the tube or aligned pipes. The relative rotation is then stopped and a friction weld is formed.Many variations are possible: for example a rotating internal ring may be expanded by radial pressure and thereby friction welded to a tube or across the junction of two pipes.

    摘要: Process and apparatus for assembling tubular components of metal or thermoplastic material by frictional welding in which use is made of a short tubular connecting cuff placed between the end surfaces to be assembled of the two tubular members held in alignment with said cuff and which is rotated about an axis perpendicular to the surfaces to be welded while regulating the position of the cuff along the axis until uniform softening by friction is obtained of the contacting surfaces, the rotation of the cuff is then stopped while maintaining a pressure on the tubes until the weld is consolidated upon cooling.The apparatus is characterized by the fact that thrusts independent of one another are exerted between the cuffs and tubes so as to produce pressure contact between the two ends of the cuffs and corresponding ends of the tubes.

    摘要: Known methods of controlling inertia welding and friction welding processes fail to control metal upset, and so require post machining of the welded components. The invention pre-determines the ideal rates of relative rotation, force applied and metal upset rates for a given material to be welded, enters those rates in a microprocessor memory and then connects the microprocessor to the apparatus on which the weld is to be effected. The microprocessor monitors the actual rates, compares them with the ideal rates and, should differences occur, generates signals from those differences with which to adjust operation of the apparatus.

    摘要: A friction welding machine comprising a base including a horizontal way surface, and a plurality of horizontally spaced keyways, an end stop assembly including a housing having roller supports for permitting horizontal displacement of the end stop assembly along the way surface. The device further includes a slide member having keys for matingly engaging with the base keyways and a pair of vertically spaced, horizontally extending, axially spaced end stops. A first member is included for locating the slide member at a lowermost position for locating the upper end stop at a predetermined machining location, a second member is included for locating the slide member at an intermediate position for locating the lower end stop at a predetermined machining location, and a third member is included for locating the slide member at an upper portion whereat the slide keys becomes disengaged from the base keyways whereby the end stop assembly can be horizontally displaced relative to the base.

    摘要: The present development is directed to a method for joining metal at relatively low temperatures by solid-state bonding. Planar surfaces of the metal workpieces are placed in a parallel abutting relationship with one another. A load is applied to at least one of the workpieces for forcing the workpieces together while one of the workpieces is relatively slowly oscillated in a rotary motion over a distance of about 1.degree.. After a preselected number of oscillations, the rotary motion is terminated and the bond between the abutting surfaces is effected. An additional load may be applied to facilitate the bond after terminating the rotary motion.
