    摘要: A process and composition for converting nitrogen oxides present in exhaust gases produced by an internal combustion engine utilize cobalt and at least one alkali metal or alkaline earth metal as a component of an adsorbent. The process involves contacting the exhaust gas with an adsorbent which adsorbs the nitrogen oxides in lean-burn conditions and recurrently reducing the oxygen concentration of the exhaust gas. During such periods of reduced oxygen concentration, the nitrogen oxides are then desorbed and reduced to nitrogen, thereby reducing the concentration of the nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas. The composition of the adsorbent comprises an oxide support and at least two components loaded on the support and containing cobalt and at least one alkali metal or alkaline earth metal. The composition demonstrates improved activity at higher temperatures and improved thermal stability.

    摘要: A heat exchanger is mounted external to a section of flue pipe or is an integral part of a section of flue pipe. The heat exchanger preheats a domestic hot water supply and boosts the return water temperature prior to reentry to the furnace coil. The heat exchanger reduces fuel use, pollution and wear of the furnace and burner. A typical heat exchanger installation includes an oil or gas burner located on a furnace or boiler having a flue pipe leading to a gaseous outlet, such as a masonry chimney. A short vertical flue section leads to a draft-regulating damper. The flue heat exchanger may be a coil of copper tubing wrapped around flue section, such that the tubing picks up heat from the heated flue gasses. The cold water source is coupled to a short length of convoluted flexible tubing with coupling flanges which couple the water through the flue mounted heat exchanger. Preheated water exits from the heat exchanger through flexible tubing having a safety pressure relief valve.

    摘要: A fume hood includes a top, bottom sidewalls, front panel and a back panel that define an enclosed workspace. The fume hood also includes a movable sash for opening and closing an access opening. The fume hood also includes an air chamber having an inlet in the front panel. The air chamber includes a baffle system that evenly distributes the inlet air as the air travels through the air chamber. An unimpeded flow of air is discharged downward and away from the breathing zone of the technician and proximate to the sash to reduce the forward momentum of air trying to escape the fume hood. The fume hood provides a safe environment for the technician to work by enabling the fumes to stay contained in the fume hood under all working conditions. The air passes through the air chamber when the movable sash is positioned at a minimum height above the bottom of the fume hood. As a result, the amount of condition air that is exhausted from the room through the fume hood is reduced, thereby lowering the operating cost and increasing the efficiency of the fume hood.

    摘要: An energy-efficient fume hood is provided having: (i) a housing with an access aperture to permit access to the interior of the fume hood; and (ii) a vertically movable frame attached to the housing about the access aperture. The vertical frame has two or more horizontally movable panels mounted therein. The horizontally movable panels may be used to close off substantially all or a portion of the access aperture, thereby reducing the volume of air required to be drawn through the access aperture in order to maintain desired face velocity, while permitting access to the interior of the fume hood. An exhaust system is used to draw fumes away from the interior of the fume hood. An air bypass is provided to permit airflow into the fume hood when the access aperture is closed.

    摘要: A low profile flue for a furnace, including a chamber, a vent collar and a downdraft diverter. The chamber is disposed above the heat exchanger and receives exhaust gas therefrom, the chamber being defined by a bottom wall with an opening therethrough for receiving the gas, two side walls projecting upwardly from the bottom, a top wall extending between the sides and spaced above the bottom wall, and an upper wall with the vent opening therethrough. The upper wall is connected along a forward edge to the bottom wall, connected on opposite ends to the side walls, and connected at a rear edge to the top wall. The upper wall front edge is substantially aligned with one of the vertically oriented housing sides, and the upper wall extends from the front edge over the heat exchanger at an angle on the order of 45 degrees from horizontal. The vent collar is on the chamber upper wall about the vent opening. The downdraft diverter extends between the side walls inside the chamber adjacent the vent opening, and has a longitudinal axis substantially parallel to the chamber upper wall. A vent elbow has an inlet and an outlet oriented at an angle on the order of 45 degrees to each other, and is securable to the vent collar to selectively orient the outlet vertically or horizontally.
