摘要: A wind tunnel for stable sustained human flight for research or recreation, including a tunnel including first and second portions having first and second central axes, respectively, and a fan to create an air flow in the test section. The second portion is a test section. The first and second central axes are arranged at a first angle with respect to each other. The second central axis is at a second angle of 5°-85° with respect to a horizontal plane. A safety system for an inclined wind tunnel for stable sustained human flight is provided, including an inclined test section of the wind tunnel that is arranged at an angle of 5°-85° with respect to a horizontal plane, a fan to create an air flow in the test section directed from an upstream end towards a downstream end thereof, and a delimiting arrangement arranged at the test section for preventing a person using the test section from leaving it.

摘要: A wake generator for placement in a wind tunnel between a wind source and a test object includes a first frame member having a first track formed thereon, where the first track has a shape including a first side that is substantially rounded and a second side that is substantially flat. The wake generator may include a mounting plate disposed within a perimeter of the first track, where the mounting plate is rotatable relative to the first frame member about a first axis. The wake generator may also include a plurality of bars slidably engaged to the mounting plate and structurally configured to traverse along the first track when the mounting plate is rotated about the first axis, where each of the plurality of bars includes a pivotal connection allowing each of the plurality of bars to pivot about the pivotal connection when traversing along the first track.

摘要: In an embodiment, a test section comprises at least one surface defining an at least partially enclosed space. The at least partially enclosed space defines an airflow path for air to flow. The test section also comprises a nozzle disposed in the at least partially enclosed space. The nozzle is configured to spray an agricultural spray and is positioned to emit the agricultural spray such that at least a section of the agricultural spray exhibits a non-parallel angle relative to the airflow path defined by the at least partially enclosed space. The test section further comprises at least one stimulus source positioned to illuminate at least a portion of the agricultural spray adjacent to the nozzle. Additionally, the test section comprises at least one detector positioned to image at least the portion of the agricultural spray adjacent to the nozzle.

摘要: A vertical wind tunnel skydiving simulator including a flight chamber entrance that has a curved air deflector that extends into a waiting chamber, in which a convex surface of the curved air deflector faces across or towards the flight chamber entrance or into the flight chamber, and extends into the waiting chamber a sufficient distance to substantially reduce the flow of turbulent air into the waiting chamber. The curved surface is at the top of the entrance and can also be at the sides. The shape the curved surface takes is sufficient to minimize the flow of turbulent air into the waiting chamber; the effect is to make it more comfortable and less noisy for people in the waiting area. This also helps to preserves the laminar, non-turbulent flow of air in the flying chamber, even across the flight chamber entrance. This makes flying more comfortable and predictable.

摘要: An apparatus and a process for testing a large combustor or a high Mach aero vehicle in a wind tunnel, where liquid air stored in a tank is pumped to a high pressure above 1,500 psi, then vaporized to produce gaseous air at the same high pressure, where the high pressure gaseous air is then heated to a high temperature and then passed into a combustor for testing or passed through a converging diverging nozzle and then into a wind tunnel to produce a non-vitiated gaseous air flow of at least Mach 5 for testing of an aero vehicle. Water can be added to the high pressure liquid air to produce an air flow having a normal water content.

摘要: A balance has a balance centerline and an axial force measurement section having a longitudinal slot partially dividing the axial force measurement section into a first part and a second part longitudinally overlapping each other and interconnected by corner flexure groups. The axial force measurement section has an axial force measurement beam located approximately midway between the corner flexure groups. The axial force measurement beam has strain gages for determining axial force on the model. Each corner flexure group includes flexures each having a first flexure root and a second flexure root respectively joined to the first part and the second part. The flexures each have a flexure midpoint between the first and second flexure roots, and a flexure thickness that is tapered along the flexure length from each of the first and second flexure roots to a reduced thickness proximate the flexure midpoint.

摘要: Various embodiments provide dye-doped polystyrene microspheres generated using dispersion polymerization. Polystyrene microspheres may be doped with fluorescent dyes, such as xanthene derivatives including kiton red 620 (KR620), using dispersion polymerization. Certain functionalities, such as sodium styrene sulfonate, may be used to shift the equilibrium distribution of dye molecules to favor incorporation of the dye into the particles. Polyelectrolyte materials, such as poly(diallyldimethyl ammonium chloride), PolyDADMAC, may be used to electrostatically trap and bind dye molecules within the particles. A buffer may be used to stabilize the pH change of the solution during dye-doped polystyrene microsphere generation and the buffer may be selected depending on the pKa of the dye being incorporated. The various embodiments may provide dye-doped polystyrene microspheres, such as KR620-doped polystyrene microspheres that are non-toxic and non-carcinogenic. These non-toxic and non-carcinogenic dye-doped polystyrene microspheres may be suitable for use in wind tunnel testing.

Furthermore, a support device 8 may be provided, which may be connected to the support element 7 in such a way that a change in a rotational orientation of the support element 7 can cause a lifting or lowering movement of the support device 8.
