Abstract:
A personal media device including a broadcast receiver that receives broadcast media and broadcast media data from a broadcast source where the broadcast media data includes a media identifier associated with the broadcast media. The media device also includes a data transceiver that sends a retrieval request to a media server for enhanced media data where the retrieval request includes the media identifier and receives the enhanced media data via a wireless data channel. The media device further includes a processor that performs a media device operation in response to the received enhanced media data.
Abstract:
A method and an apparatus for switching from the main frequency to an Alternative Frequency (AF) providing the same station is provided. The method includes measuring a received signal strength of a main frequency, receiving at least one alternative frequency list, establishing an accumulated alternative frequency list including all previously received alternative frequency lists, comparing the received signal strength of the main frequency with a predefined reference received signal strength, and attempting, when the received signal strength of the main frequency is less than the reference received signal strength, switching to an alternative frequency in the accumulated alternative frequency list.
Abstract:
The present disclosure provides radio station list management in a wireless receiver. Upon detection of a scan event, a plurality of radio broadcast channels is scanned to detect available radio stations. Available radio stations that fail to meet a preference criterion are identified and removed to form a list of preferred radio stations. The scan event may be generated dependent upon a time, a location of the wireless receiver, or a broadcast signal quality. Preference criteria may include station content classification and signal quality.
Abstract:
A system and method for broadcast response generally employing RDS, DARC, or similar technology is provided, including a method for responding to a broadcast comprising extracting an event identifier from a broadcast signal; detecting a response by a user to the broadcast signal; polling a communications device to determine a user identifier; and communicating the event identifier and the user identifier when the user response is detected.

Abstract:
Systems, methods, and devices for processing supplementary data in a buffered radio stream are provided. In one example, an electronic device capable of processing such supplementary data may include a radio frequency receiver, memory, and data processing circuitry. The radio frequency receiver may be capable of receiving and decoding a radio frequency broadcast signal into an audio signal and an audio-identifying non-audio signal. The memory may be capable of buffering the audio signal. The data processing circuitry may be capable of parsing information from the non-audio signal into an audio-identifying component, which may be inserted into the audio signal buffered in the memory.
Abstract:
Apparatus and methods enhancing radio programming include receiving a broadcast radio transmission at a communication device. The broadcast radio transmission includes primary content and supplemental content having a relationship to the primary content. Further, the primary content includes a first audio data, while the supplemental content includes audio data. Additionally, the apparatus and methods include converting the supplemental content into converted supplemental content, maintaining the relationship to the primary content. Moreover, the converted supplemental content includes second audio data converted from the non-audio data. Thus, the described apparatus and methods allow the communication device to output signals for generating audible representations of both the primary content and the supplemental content.
Abstract:
A broadcast response system provides, e.g., a radio broadcast listener with the ability to obtain media content such as music or speech while listening to the radio. The user can respond to items in the radio broadcast such as advertisements, fund raising drives, or interactive listener polls during the broadcast. Data such as song title and artist, author or publisher and the IP address for the location where the digital version of the content is stored, can be transmitted using, e.g., the RBDS/RDS data stream. A reference number representing song title and artist, author or publisher and the IP address for the location where the digital version of the content is stored can also be employed for ease of implementation. This reference number can reside in a lookup table to be accessed by broadcast response server.
Abstract:
A hand-held music player for use in conjunction with radios, including a casing, a receiver socket on the casing through which digital audio data is received, a digital-to-analog audio converter housed within the casing, a first transfer socket on the casing through which a song is transferred to a radio transmitter, a second transfer socket on the casing through which meta-data for the song is transferred to the radio transmitter, and a dial on the casing for selecting a song for playback. A method and a computer-readable storage medium are also described.
Abstract:
Devices and methods of generating an alert comprise receiving a broadcast radio transmission at a communication device, wherein the broadcast radio transmission comprises primary content and supplemental content having a relationship to the primary content. Further, the primary content comprises a first audio data, and the supplemental content comprises a non-audio data. The devices and methods further include detecting the receiving of the supplemental content, and generating an alert signal operable to activate an alerting device to output a non-visual notification.
