    Abstract: A rod end assembly includes a rod having a shank thereon, the shank comprising an intermediate journal portion and a threaded end portion. There are one or more roller bearings mounted on the journal portion of the shank. The bearings each have an inner ring and an outer ring, and include an endmost bearing. A nut is mounted on the threaded portion of the shank to engage the endmost bearing. There is a rod end body secured to the rod end. The rod end body has a mounting portion that is configured to rest on the roller bearings and to engage the outer ring of the endmost bearing.     Abstract: A spherical plain bearing has outer and inner rings each having a bearing surface, one bearing surface being in sliding disposition to the other. The inner ring has a third bearing surface for engaging a member to be mounted to the bearing. There is a lubrication groove in one or more of the first, second or third bearing surfaces, the lubrication groove comprising a contoured side. In an alternative a spherical plain bearing, there is a segmented lubrication groove in the third bearing surface that might have a sharp edge or a contoured side. A contoured lubrication groove can be formed by forming a lubrication groove that has a sharp edge; and machining the sharp edge to a contoured side having a reduced tendency to wipe lubricant from a second surface facing the lubrication groove.

A secondary slip path is defined by the ball rotating about the pin. The secondary slip path is engaged when rotation about the primary slip path fails.

    Abstract: In a rotary wing aircraft tail rotor head assembly having a ball bearing on a spindle at the head of a rotor wing, the ball bearing contains slug ball separators between the balls in the bearing. The separator may be made from PEEK, PTFE, or polyimide. The ball-to-ball separation between two balls of like diameter provided by the separator may about 3.2 to about 64% of the diameter of one of the balls. A separator may have an annular configuration that defines a passage therethrough, the passage having two ends and the interior of the separator being tapered to define a maximum diameter at each end and a minimum diameter therebetween. The taper of the chamfered surface of the slug ball separator may define a conical angle of about 75° to about 120°. A ball bearing as described herein may also be used in a rotary wing aircraft swashplate having a stationary plate, a rotating plate; and a thrust bearing between the stationary plate and the rotating plate.

    Abstract: A seal for a flexible alignment sealing coupling. The seal includes an annular member being symmetric about a longitudinal axis. The annular member has a radially inward facing surface extending an axial width between a first axial end and a second axial end. In a relaxed state of the seal, the radially inward facing surface has an asymmetric generally concave V-shaped cross section and is defined by a first section and a second section. The first section has a first seal taper angle measured relative to a line parallel to the longitudinal axis. The second section has a second seal taper angle measured relative to another line parallel to the longitudinal axis. The first seal taper angle is less than the second seal taper angle. Each of the first seal taper angle and the second seal taper angle is greater than zero degrees and less than 90 degrees.

    Abstract: An axial retainment system for a shaft is provided. The axial retainment system includes a cylindrical body extending from an outboard end to an inboard end thereof, and a swaged ridge extending radially outward from the cylindrical body proximate the outboard end. The swaged ridge has an outboard axial surface facing toward the outboard end and extending radially outward and terminating at a radially outward facing circumferential surface. The swaged ridge has an inboard axial surface facing toward the inboard end and extending radially outward from the cylindrical body and terminating at the radially outward facing circumferential surface. The outboard axial surface of the swaged ridge is recessed axially inward from the outboard end of the shaft. The inboard axial surface of the swaged ridge is swaged against, conforms in shape to, and is compressed against a component to be axially retained on the shaft.
