    Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for efficient ranging, for example, in a neighbor aware network (NAN). According to certain aspects, an apparatus for wireless communications is provided. The apparatus generally includes a processing system configured to determine a period that at least one second apparatus is scheduled to be awake, generate a first frame for transmission to the second apparatus during the period, determine ranging information based on a time difference between transmission of the first frame and receipt of a second frame in response to the first frame, and generate a third frame including the ranging information; a transmit interface configured to output the first and third frames for transmission; and a receive interface configured to obtain the second frame. By exchanging ranging information in already scheduled wake-up periods and in existing frame, power consumption and signaling overhead may be reduced.

    Abstract: An 802.11ac access point (AP) may be capable of communicating with both 802.11n (on 40 MHz band) and 802.11ac devices (on 80 MHz band). While the 802.11ac AP is communicated with 802.11n devices on 40 MHz band, the remaining 40 MHz band is wasted because the 802.11n devices are not capable of communicating on this band. The AP may operate as if it is two virtual APs, one capable of communicating with 802.11n devices on a first primary and a first secondary channels (basic service set 1—BSS1) and the second communicating with 802.11ac devices on a second primary and a second secondary channels (BSS2). Individual beacons may be sent for BSS1 and BSS2. The transmissions on BSS2 may be performed simultaneously with transmissions on BSS1. However, transmission on one channel and receiving on the second channel cannot happen simultaneously.

    Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided. In one aspect, an apparatus includes a processor configured to send a request to at least one station associated with the apparatus to scan for information related to at least one neighboring access point (AP) operating in a neighborhood of the apparatus and report the information to the apparatus, receive from the at least one associated station a report including the information, generate a neighborhood report related to the at least one neighboring AP, the neighborhood report including the information received from the at least one associated station, and transmit the neighborhood report to one or more other stations not associated with the apparatus to facilitate discovery of an AP of interest to the one or more other stations.

    Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and devices are described for wireless communications in which neighborhood area network (NaN) information may be requested and provided in a relatively fast and efficient manner between devices of a NaN. A wireless communication device, such as a station in a wireless communications network, may transmit an active probe request to seek information related to a NaN. The active probe request may be a NaN specific probe request, or may be transmitted from a station as part of an active scan for wireless network infrastructure other than NaN devices (e.g., as part of a scan for an AP in a BSS). An AP or master device of the NaN may receive the probe request and generate a NaN discovery response, which may include information that the requesting device may use for connecting to a device in the NaN.

    Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices provide for efficient access point discovery. One implementation generates a wireless frame to include a first indication of a service set identifier of the access point, and a second indication of a format of the first indication. The frame is then transmitted on a wireless medium. In some aspects, the first indication is a hash of a service set identifier of the access point, for example, a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) value of the service set identifier.
