Abstract:
A television audience measurement system measures viewing of a television program viewed on digital television located in a statistically selected site by (i) retrieving an audience measurement data packet from a television set in order to identify the television program, (ii) detecting an audio code embedded in the television program in order to identify the television program, (iii) extracting an audio signature from the television program in order to identify the television program, (iv) identifying the television program through use of a software agent, and (v) selecting at least one of the retrieving means, the detecting means, the extracting means, and the software agent in order to identify the television program.
Abstract:
Methods and systems are provided for gathering research data that includes information pertaining to audio signals received on a portable device, such as a cell phone. Frequency domain data is received or produced, a signature is extracted from the frequency domain data and an ancillary code is read from the frequency domain data.
Abstract:
Digital video signature apparatus and methods for use with video program identification systems are disclosed. The example apparatus and methods generate a signature associated with a video program. An example system includes a frame scanner to scan video frames associated with the video program. The frame scanner is to select a video frame based on a number of intra-coded macro blocks within the video frame. The example system also includes an intra-coded macro block extractor to extract intra-coded macro blocks from the video frame and a scaled image extractor to extract a scaled image from the intra-coded macro blocks. A signature generator is also included in the example system to calculate a plurality of centroids associated with video frame based on the scaled image and to form the signature based on the plurality of centroids.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus to maintain audience privacy while determining viewing of video-on-demand (VOD) programs are disclosed. An example method disclosed herein comprises obtaining subscriber metering data from a site metering device monitoring presentation of VOD content at a first subscriber site, obtaining server metering data from a VOD server, the server metering data including identification information for a plurality of subscriber sites to identify particular VOD content provided uniquely to each of the subscriber sites, the identification information manipulated to preserve anonymity of the plurality of subscriber sites, manipulating at least a portion of the subscriber metering data to determine a first manipulated identifier to identify the first subscriber site, and using the first manipulated identifier to cross-reference the manipulated identification information included in the server metering data to merge the subscriber metering data and the portion of the server metering data uniquely associated with the first subscriber site.
Abstract:
A computer system comprising one or more communications devices; one or more processors operatively connected to the one or more communications devices; and one or more computer readable media operatively connected to the one or more processors and having stored thereon computer instructions for carrying out the steps of (a) maintaining, by the computer system, a database comprising (1) first data related to identification of one or more works; and (2) second data related to information corresponding to each of the one or more works as identified by the first data; (b) obtaining, by the computer system, extracted features of a work to be identified; (c) identifying, by the computer system, the work by comparing the extracted features of the work with the first data in the database using a non-exhaustive neighbor search; (d) determining, by the computer system, the information corresponding to the identified work based on the second data in the database; and (e) associating, by the computer system, the determined information with the identified work.
Abstract:
Embodiments provide for outputting video and allowing a user to switch between different audio streams in a synchronous manner without impacting the timeline of the audio presentation. The audio and video streams may be directed to a single sporting event. For example, a user can view video associated with a national television broadcast of a baseball game, and switch between the audio from the national broadcast and the audio from the radio broadcast. Similarly, the user can view video associated with a local television broadcast, and switch between the audio from the national, regional, and/or radio broadcast. As any sport fan would appreciate, such flexibility enables users to watch the video with, e.g., the best quality and camera angle, while at the same time listening to the audio or broadcaster they find the most appealing.
Abstract:
An end user can sample a radio or television broadcast, generate a user representation of the broadcast sample, and send the user representation to a comparison system, which also receives known representations of content broadcast by multiple different stations. The known representations are stored in a continuous fashion, and represent actually broadcast content. The comparison system identifies the source of the broadcast sample by comparing the user representation to the known representations associated with each of the different stations. By comparing two representations of content that was actually broadcast, a broadcast source can be identified without requiring the use of watermarks, timestamps, or a database of discreet content items.
Abstract:
A system for identifying motion video/audio content by means of comparing a video A to a registered video B so as to determine if they are originally the same as each other, wherein said system at least comprises a fingerprint extractor A for fingerprint A from the video A; a fingerprint database for the registered video B; and a matcher which is adapted to search from the fingerprint database for the registered fingerprint B of the video B by means of comparison of fingerprint A with a shifting window of a possible fingerprint B, so as to determine that the video A is visually identical to the video B if a match is found. According to the present invention, the method for extracting a fingerprint data from video/audio signals facilitates the automatic identification, archiving and search of video content, and can be of archiving without the need for human visual inspections.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus to collect audience information associated with a media presentation are described herein. In an example method includes counting a first number of individuals proximate to a media presentation device, counting a second number of signals received from one or more portable devices, each of which is associated with a respective one of one or more monitored individuals, comparing the first number of individuals to the second number of signals, and determining a third number of unidentified ones of the individuals proximate to the media presentation device based on the comparison of the first number of individuals to the second number of signals.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for characterizing media are described. An example method includes converting at least a portion of a block of audio into a frequency domain representation, dividing the frequency domain representation into bands, determining a characteristic difference of a first band of the bands, and determining a signature bit based on the characteristic difference, wherein determining the signature bit is performed differently based on whether an index of the first band has a first property.
