Abstract: According to one embodiment, a display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a liquid crystal layer, a first light guide element and a light-emitting element. The liquid crystal layer contains stringy polymers and liquid crystal molecules. The first light guide element includes a third transparent substrate including a side surface and a main surface, and a transparent layer disposed on the main surface and having a refractive index lower than that of the third transparent substrate. The light-emitting element opposes the side surface, and the third transparent substrate is adhered to the second transparent substrate while interposing the transparent layer therebetween. The light-emitting element is disposed on the second transparent substrate.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a manufacturing method includes forming a lower electrode, forming a rib, and forming a partition including a conductive bottom portion, an insulating stem portion, and a top portion. The formation of the partition includes forming a first layer including a layer of a conductive first material, forming a second layer including a layer of an insulating second material, forming a third layer including a layer of a third material, forming the top, stem and bottom portions by first to third etching processes, respectively. An etching rate of the third material in the second etching process is lower than an etching rate of the second material in the second etching process.

Abstract: A display panel includes a light source section, a light guide section, a liquid crystal layer, a partition section, a display section, and a diffusion section. The light source section can emit red light, green light, and blue light. A light source light emitted from the light source section enters the light guide section. The red light, the green light, and the blue light that have passed through the light guide section enter the liquid crystal layer. The partition section partitions the liquid crystal layer into plural pixel regions. An image formed by the red light, the green light, and the blue light emitted from the pixel regions is displayed on the display section. The diffusion section is provided in the light guide section and diffuses the red light, the green light, and the blue light that have entered the light guide section into the light guide section.

Abstract: A display device includes: a display panel with pixels; a light source with light emission points; an acquirer configured to acquire viewpoint information; and a controller configured to control image display based on the viewpoint information on positions of viewpoints and an arrangement direction of the viewpoints. The controller is configured to drive some or all of pixels positioned on straight lines each connecting a corresponding one of the light emission points to a corresponding one of the viewpoints based on a relative rotation angle between the display panel and the arrangement direction and a relative positional relation between the viewpoints and the light emission points. The light emission points are individually switchable between a turned-on state and a turned-off state. A pitch of the light emission points is smaller than a pitch of light emission points controlled to be turned on when outputting an individual image to each viewpoint.
