Abstract:
A media server component serves media programs to a plurality of client media players across a distribution network taking into consideration available data transfer rate and media player characteristics. The media programs are served adaptively, considering screen size, refresh rate required, frame rate, audio format, user preferences at the recipient media player's end (such as region of interest adaptation, resizing of the windows, or desired quality of display) and estimated available data transfer rate. The media server component responds to the channel conditions (such as available data transfer rate), recipient media audio and video characteristics and the user preferences at the recipient device's end in real time, by either delivering a stored program or transcoding the stored program in real time. The media server components, when incorporated into many different media players that process video signals, deliver media programs adaptively to the client devices. The media server component in the set top box allows multiple users to receive media programs or television broadcasts adaptively meeting the player display characteristics of the recipient devices of the users.
Abstract:
A method and system for the consumption of simulcasted or multicasted multimedia information via a wireless personal or local area network by a broadband access gateway, is disclosed. A user of an access device such as, for example, a mobile multimedia handset may engage in a call served by a wireless wide area network, and may consume components of multimedia information via the wireless wide area network. Additional components of the multimedia information may be provided to the user via a second communication path, based upon user-defined parameters in a user profile. Selected components or all of the multimedia information may be communicated to a broadband access gateway, where it may be cached, or simulcast to a plurality of access devices in a wired fashion, or wirelessly via a personal area and/or wireless local area network.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus supporting handoff using simulcasting of multimedia information via a broadband access gateway are disclosed. A broadband access gateway supporting both a personal area network and a broadband network may receive multimedia information simultaneously transmitted to an associated access device by a wide area network. The broadband access gateway may detect the presence of the associated access device, and the associated access device may accept the received multimedia information. The broadband access gateway may send the received multimedia information to the associated access device, and may communicate with the wide area network regarding the presence within the personal area network of the associated access device.
Abstract:
A method and system for simulcasting multimedia information via a broadband access gateway and a wireless wide area network, is disclosed. An access device such as, for example, a mobile multimedia handset engaged in a call served by a wireless wide area network may migrate to within the coverage area of an associated broadband access gateway with a wireless interface. The wireless wide area network may simulcast call content to the broadband access gateway via a broadband network. A user in the proximity of the broadband access gateway may be notified of the simulcasting of the call, and may elect to continue the call via a WLAN/PAN-enabled wireless handset or other access device that is compatible with the wired and/or wireless interfaces of the broadband access gateway.
Abstract:
A self-venting microwaveable pouch, a food product, and a method of preparing a food product utilizing a rupturable or vent seal that is formed in the pouch and along an aperture formed by the pouch. Multiple pouch products can be stored or displayed by placing hanger or hook through apertures defined by the pouch panels, such as apertures in the top sections of the panels. A vent seal is formed along the aperture. Flexible insets extend between bottom sections of the panels. The insets and bottoms of the panels and outwardly extendable to form a base to support the pouch in an upright position. In use, when a food item is heated in a microwave oven, the rupturable seal is reliably broken before other pouch seals. As a result, the pouch can be conveniently shipped and displayed, and the food item can be properly cooked and maintained within the container.
Abstract:
The subject invention addresses the need for methods of treatment and prevention of breast cancer, and other cancers, by providing a peptide of eight to twenty amino acids in length which comprises a hydrophilic analog of an alpha-fetoprotein peptide having SEQ ID NO:6: EMTPVNPG. The peptides may be linear, but are preferably cyclic. The peptides may be provided as dimers or other multimers. A composition comprising the peptide, an antibody that specifically binds to the peptide, a method of reducing estrogen-stimulated growth of cells using the peptide, as well as a method of treating or preventing cancer, such as breast cancer, are also provided. The treatment or prevention method can include the use of tamoxifen therapy in combination with the peptide therapy.

Abstract:
Integrated control systems and methods for control of distributed home entertainment electronic devices are provided. In an embodiment, an integrated control system provides for control of distributed home entertainment electronic devices using a home wireless or wireline network. In an embodiment, an integrated control system includes a controller for managing its operation, a translator for translating management instructions into management messages using a preferred communications protocol, and a device database coupled to the controller for storing device information that includes device characteristics and configuration information. The integrated control system also includes one or more wireless or wireline interfaces. Methods are provided to control distributed home entertainment electronic devices and to distribute video and audio signals. A legacy television dongle is provided to support the integration of legacy televisions into a system of distributed home entertainment electronic devices under the control of an integrated control system.
Abstract:
A device having a flexible elongated support member having an upperside, an underside, and a first and second extension on either side of a central-portion, each of the first and second extensions have a free-end. A first and second strap portion affixed to and extending from the upperside between the free-ends of the support member. These strap portions are employed for positioning around the mass. A mateable first and second coupling is attached to a free end-section of each of the first and second strap portions. The strap portions may be adjustable in length with each respective coupling being slidably attached to its respective free end-section. Extending from the underside of the support member and along each of the first and second extensions, is a respective first and second plurality of handles affixed to at least the underside. Also, a method of lifting to carry a mass employing a device comprising a flexible elongated support member characterized herein. The method includes: placing the support member under the mass and positioning the first and second strap portion therearound; engaging a first and second coupling such that the mass fits snug within the strap portions; and grasping and applying a force to at least one handle from each of a first and second plurality of handles extending from, and affixed to, the underside along a respective one of the first and second extensions, to aid in the lifting.
Abstract:
Providing of a universal wireless multimedia device begins for an incoming call by determining whether a piconet can be established between an initiating device and the wireless multimedia device. If a piconet cannot be established, the processing continues by determining whether the headset can establish a piconet with a device coupled to a network. The network may be a local area network, which includes wireless devices and/or wired devices. When the wireless multimedia device can establish the piconet with a device coupled to the network, the piconet is established. Once the piconet is established, the processing continues by establishing a logical connection between the initiating device and the device coupled to the network. As such, the incoming communication is supported via the logical connection and the piconet.
