Abstract:
Systems and methods for addressing a corrupted segment in a media asset. The media guidance application determines that a segment of a media asset is corrupted. The media guidance application determines whether a retrieval period to retrieve an uncorrupted copy of the segment exceeds a threshold period. If the retrieval period does not exceed the threshold period, the media guidance application retrieves and generates for display the uncorrupted copy of the segment. If the retrieval period exceeds the threshold period, the media guidance application determines whether an importance level of the corrupted segment exceeds a threshold level. If the importance level exceeds the threshold level, the media guidance application generates for display a summary for the corrupted segment. If the importance level does not exceed the threshold level, the media guidance application generates for display the subsequent segment and the summary for the corrupted segment in an overlay.
Abstract:
Methods and systems are described for a media guidance application that enhances the viewing experiences of users consuming media having important content. If a user is prevented from viewing media having important content that will be displayed eminently, the media having the important content may be displayed on a second device. For example, in this manner, a user will not inadvertently miss content from a movie or sports game right before an important scene in the movie or an important play in the sports game is displayed.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are disclosed herein for detecting that a given segment in a media asset currently being consumed will be interrupted by an event and, responsively, modifying playback of the media asset such that either the start time or the end time of the given segment coincides with the start time of the interrupting event. Modifying playback of the media asset to cause the end time of the given segment to coincide with the start time of the interrupting event may entail fast-forwarding through or removing one or more segments from the playback of the media asset. Modifying playback of the media asset to cause the start time of the given segment to coincide with the start time of the interrupting event may entail inserting one or more segments of secondary content into the playback of the media asset.
Abstract:
Methods and systems that provide an interactive media guidance application having a locked mode for viewing media assets. In the locked mode, the interactive media guidance application may provide media assets suited to a certain audience. The interactive media guidance application may determine suitable media assets for the locked mode based on media assets viewed by other users having characteristics similar to the user of the interactive media guidance application. In the locked mode, the interactive media guidance application may allow access to only certain media assets and/or limit the time period for which the media assets are presented.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided herein for presenting an alternate media content source. A first media content source, on which presentation of a media asset began at a second time, is selected at a first time later than the second time. A program listings database is searched for a second media content source presenting the media asset. The media guidance application may generate for display the media asset transmitted over the second media content source instead of the first media content source.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided herein for resuming playback of a media content. Media content is provided to the user device. The media content is paused in response to receiving a pause command. A memorability metric associated with a position where the media content was paused is determined. In response to receiving a resume command, the media content is resumed at a position that is earlier in time than the position where the media content was paused. The position where the media content is resumed is based on the memorability metric.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are described herein for providing a media guidance application that reduces an amount of time required to catch a user up to live media by selectively presenting to the user portions of important content that the user finds most important. For example, a first user and a second user may wish to catch-up on a mutually missed portion of media. Both users may be notified about an important event in the media. If the first user is a fan of a first actor in the media, the first user will be presented a description of the missed portion in relation the first actor. If the second user is a fan of a second actor in the media, the second user will be presented a description of the missed portion in relation the second actor. Therefore, each respective user, will catch-up on content from the missed portion that he or she respectively finds most important.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are described herein for blocking sections of media using censoring techniques adaptive to context of the user environment. For example, by first determining features of the user environment such as location, time of day, attention level of the user, number of users, the type of media system being used, or the layout of a user environment, different methods of censorship and blocking may be implemented. A group of friends watching television with rapt attention may be shown a highlight reel; a single user not paying attention to a movie may be shown a synopsis of the plot; or a child watching a cartoon on a smart-phone may be presented with a social media update to seamlessly distract their attention. Thus unwanted content is blocked in an intelligent fashion, and overall user experience is enhanced.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided for generating a content item banner for display based on a session type and a content item type. A user profile is accessed at a computing device, and a session type associated with consumption of at least a content item of a plurality of content items is determined based on the user profile. A content item type associated with the plurality of content items is determined, and a content item banner for a subsequent content item of the plurality of content items is identified based on the session type and the content item type. The content item banner is generated for display.
Abstract:
Methods and systems are described for learning which content segments may be complex and providing enhanced content with playback of those complex segments. A complexity engine accesses content, the content includes a plurality of ordered segments and each of the plurality of segments associated with a complexity score. The complexity engine provides each of the plurality of ordered segments of the content for consumption. After receiving input that identifies a first segment of the plurality of segments as complex, the complexity engine calculates a comprehension threshold based on the complexity score associated with the first segment. While further providing content segments, the complexity engine identifies a subsequent segment where the complexity score is greater than or equal to the comprehension threshold. The complexity engine provides corresponding enhanced content with the subsequent segment.
