A method for compiler-guided optimization of MapReduce type applications that includes applying transformations and optimizations to JAVA bytecode of an original application by an instrumenter which carries out static analysis to determine application properties depending on the optimization being performed and provides an output of optimized JAVA bytecode, and executing the application and analyzing generated trace and feeds information back into the instrumenter by a trace analyzer, the trace analyzer and instrumenter invoking each other iteratively and exchanging information through files.
Abstract:
A method for optical chirp-free optical polarization modulation includes dividing a data modulated optical signal into a first optical path and a second optical path, using a Mach-Zehnder intensity modulator in the first optical path for imparting a π phase difference between adjacent symbols of the data modulated optical signal in the first optical path, adjusting a delay and amplitude of symbols of the data modulated optical signal in the second path so that the symbols in the first path and the symbols in the second path are synchronized and have substantially equal power levels, and combining the first and second optical paths so that symbols from the first and second optical paths are in orthogonal polarizations.
Abstract:
Methods and systems for reusing macro cell resources in femto cell base stations or relay stations in a non-collaborative manner are disclosed. In addition, orthogonal resource allocation between a macro cell base station and femto cell base stations/relay stations may be dynamically adjusted by considering user-population variance. Moreover, an additional level of spatial reuse by femto cell base stations or relay stations can be provided by employing macro cell user location information.
Abstract:
A method includes receiving non-elastic traffic into a cellular network serving users; varying long-term dissatisfaction of the users with dynamic resource allocations during traffic overload of the cellular network, the long term dissatisfaction being measured by at least one of a function of number of times a user from the users receives bad quality of service and a level of deterioration of quality of service to the user; and influencing number of satisfied users of the cellular network responsive to the varying of long-term dissatisfaction.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are disclosed to schedule jobs in a cloud computing infrastructure by receiving in a first queue jobs with deadlines or constraints specified in a hard service level agreement (SLA); receiving in a second queue jobs with a penalty cost metric specified in a soft SLA; and minimizing both constraint violation count and total penalty cost in the cloud computing infrastructure by identifying jobs with deadlines in the first queue and delaying jobs in the first queue within a predetermined slack range in favor of jobs in the second queue to improve the penalty cost metric.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for image retrieval include constructing a plurality of graphs including a first graph for candidate images retrieved based upon holistic features of a query image and a second graph for candidate images retrieved based upon local features of the query image, wherein constructing includes weighting connected images based upon a Jaccard similarity coefficient. The plurality of graphs are fused to provide a fused graph. Candidate images of the fused graph are ranked, using a processor, to provide retrieval results of the query image.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for detecting unused channels in a cognitive radio system are described. In one method, data is communicated on a particular channel for a secondary receiver. In addition, a set of channels is iteratively scanned by collecting samples for each channel and for each iteration of the scanning. Here, iterations of the scanning progressively removes channels from the set of channels based on the collected samples and updates states of the channels in the set based on the collected samples to obtain a set of candidate channels. In response to detecting a pre-determined condition, communications on the particular channel are precluded and at least one of the candidate channels is evaluated by collecting additional samples on each of the channels. Further, at least one of the candidate channels is selected based on the evaluation for utilization by the one or more secondary receivers for data communication.
Abstract:
A method for improving multiple-input multiple-output MIMO downlink transmissions includes obtaining a channel state information CSI report including preferred matrix index PMI for precoding, channel quality index CQI and rank index RI at a base station from user terminals through a channel feedback; applying selectively a signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio SINR offset to a SINR of said CSI report; applying selectively a rate matching responsive to SINR offset or the CSI report; and controlling or adjusting the SINR offset.
