Abstract:
An apparatus for use in forming an air bag assembly 20 including a receptacle 28, an air bag 26, a continuous frame 62, and fastening elements 150. The receptacle 28 has walls 36, 38, 40, 42 and 44 defining an internal cavity 46 in which the air bag 26 is disposed in a folded form and a front opening 48 through which the air bag 26 is deployed. At least some of the walls of the receptacle 28 have a series of holes 142 adjacent the front opening 48. The air bag 26 has a mouth which forms a gas inlet opening and the continuous frame 62 is incorporated into the air bag mouth and secures the air bag 26 to the receptacle 28. The continuous frame 62 is disposed inside the front opening 48 within the internal cavity 46 and includes a series of holes 140 positioned to align with the series of holes 142 in the walls of the receptacle. The fastening elements 150 extend through the series of holes 142 in the walls of the receptacle 28 and through the series of holes 140 in the continuous frame 62 to connect the continuous frame 62 to the walls in a force transmitting relationship.
Abstract:
A method of folding an air bag and an air bag having a main panel 20 defining a top (26), front (24), and bottom (28) portions and side panels (44a,b) the top and bottom portions defining a neck 30 narrower than the front portion; comprising the steps of: laying bag with bottom portion (28) of main panel (22) flat and as fully extended as possible; flattening the front portion (24) of the main panel (20) to over the flattened bottom portion to form a first lateral extending fold (80) between the bottom (28) and front portions (24) of the bag; maintaining a portion of the front panel (24), proximate the bottom panel (28), relatively flat and folding over the front portion with the top portion to define a second lateral fold (82) between a top portion and the front portion with the top portion flattened and extended as fully as possible, aligning edges (86) of opposing top and bottom portions; placing bag material towards a centerline (70) of bag to form on each side of the bag (20) first (90) and second (92) exterior fore-aft folds and a first interior fold (94); moving the first interior fold out to the aligned edges, between the first and second fore-aft folds, to form a third fore-aft fold (94'); defining on the top (26) and bottom (28) portions of the air bag (20) respective sets of top and bottom fold lines (100a,b), the lateral spacing being approximately equal in dimension to the neck portion (30); moving the first, second and third fore-aft folds and associated air bag material toward the bag centerline and placing same between and aligned with a respective set of top and bottom fold lines forming a top fold (102) and bottom fold (104).
Abstract:
A device (20) comprising a planar metal sheet (21;21') having formed thereon at least a first set of opposing shaped slots (60a,b) such that upon forming the planar sheet as an open ended (122) generally cylindrical member or cylinder (28) first portions of the sheet, defined by the slots, extend away from the surface of the formed cylindrical member and form in conjunction with other surfaces of the sheet a plurality of first apertures (62a,b), and the extending first portions serving to define a heat sheet for shielding a portion of an air bag (100), adapted to be secured thereabout, from hot gas generated by a gas generator (50), the device including securement means, interacting with a rearward portion of the cylinderical member and adapted for urging a gas generator (50) into forward facing portions of the cylindrical member, for securing same in place.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to a curtain airbag apparatus having a twist prevention structure, and it is possible to mark a strap line 300 extending in a straight shape on a strap part 210 of a tab strap 200 for fixing a curtain airbag cushion 100 folded in a roll form, and easily check whether the curtain airbag cushion 100 folded in the roll form is twisted with the naked eye through the strap line 300.
Abstract:
An attachment member allowing a connected state between the attachment member and a guide member to be more easily checked is provided. The attachment member for attaching a stay cloth, which guides a deployment direction of an airbag module, to a seat back frame has a holding portion which includes a holding space for housing an attachment portion of the stay cloth. The holding portion is inserted into an attachment hole to be fitted into the attachment hole that is formed in the seat back frame. A through-hole which allows the attachment portion of the stay cloth in the holding space to be exposed in a penetrating direction of the attachment hole is formed in the holding portion.
Abstract:
An airbag assembly for a vehicle includes a housing, an airbag, and a flap. The airbag is stored in the housing. The flap is secured to the housing and is configured to retain the airbag in a stored state. The flap has a tear seam at which the flap is configured to separate upon deployment of the airbag. The tear seam extends non-linearly from a first lateral edge to a second lateral edge.
Abstract:
A deployment flap for a vehicular airbag system is disclosed. The deployment flap includes: a main body portion; wings that extend laterally from the main body portion; and at least one expandable portion. The main body portion includes a tear seam that is configured to separate during the inflation of an airbag such that the airbag extends through the deployment flap. The at least one expandable portion is reconfigurable from a collapsed configuration into an expanded configuration to thereby facilitate lengthening of the main body portion and the wings prior to separation of the tear seam during multi-stage inflation of the airbag, whereby the deployment flap directs the airbag and inhibits eccentric deployment.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an airbag apparatus for a vehicle seat, comprising
at least one airbag module, wherein the at least one airbag module comprises at least one airbag and is designed for attachment to a backrest and/or to a seat cushion of a vehicle seat, and a catch strap mechanism for the airbag module, wherein the catch strap mechanism comprises at least one catch strap arrangement attached to the airbag, the catch strap mechanism being designed for attachment to the vehicle seat.
Abstract:
A cover member (18) is formed of a pliable fabric material having a plurality of polymer fibers, and is configured to maintain the shape of the airbag by mutual fusion of at least part of the polymer fibers. The cover member (18) is configured to have a high stiffness portion (25) of higher stiffness than other portions of the cover member, as a result of partial overlaying of the pliable fabric material in more folds than at other portions.
