    Abstract: A method providing an increased signal-to-noise (SNR) characteristic for coherent distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) systems, the method employing fiber coils (microphones) made from sections of an optical sensing fiber that collect acoustic signals and uses multiple differential pairs of the microphones for signal averaging to improve the SNR. An analysis determines complex products (beating products) for a pair of locations that are part of a fiber microphone along the length of the optical sensing fiber that are used to determine a phase change in-between locations along the length of the optical sensing fiber.

    Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure describe distributed fiber optic sensing (DFOS) systems, methods, and structures that advantageously utilize existing telecommunications facilities that serve as not only to convey telecommunications traffic—but as a sensor medium providing useful sensory information. In sharp contrast to the prior art—a DFOS system when so deployed may advantageously exploit network topologies and optical switches to provide novel sensing features including the detection of environmental events including acoustic, temperature, and vibrational events that may be indicative of societal activity including traffic and/or emergency events.

    Abstract: A system and method for network virtualization and resource allocation, including storing one or more received network requests in a request table, and updating at least one of a flow table, a waiting list table, or a candidate group map based on the one or more received network requests. The updating includes monitoring a transmission progress of each of one or more flows in a network of interconnected computing devices and moving completed flows from the flow table to a success list, moving requests in the waiting list table which have reached an attempt threshold from the flow table to a fail list, and compiling any residual requests in the waiting list with new requests to generate a new request table. A deterministic request allocation and/or an optimizing request allocation is performed based on the new request table.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for detection of atmospheric conditions using optical orbital angular momentum (OAM)-based spectroscopy include applying OAM states to a light beam to generate an OAM spectrum, transmitting OAM light beams into an atmosphere, and determining degradation of the generated OAM light beams passing through atmospheric turbulence. A rotation rate of aerosols in the atmosphere is determined by analyzing different frequency shifts in OAM states of OAM light beams. A reflected OAM spectrum including a plurality of OAM light beams associated with the aerosols in the atmosphere may be received, and Doppler frequency shifts caused by reflection off the aerosols in the atmosphere may be measured. Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) modes of the received light beams may be detected and sorted based on the OAM states of the LG modes, and wind turbulence values are predicted by analyzing a difference in the Doppler frequency shifts for the received OAM light beams.
