Abstract:
This disclosure describes systems and methods for adaptively coupling conduits such as medical tubing to a transcutaneous fixating device or other medical tubing. In some embodiments, an adaptive coupling system for coupling two medical conduits may include a body. The body may include a first opening. The first opening is positioned proximally to a subject. The body may include a second opening. The second opening is positioned distally to the subject. The body may include a fluid gate. In some embodiments, the fluid gate may be configured to control a flow of fluids through the body between the first opening and the second opening. The first opening may be configured to release a first medical conduit, during use, under a first set of loading conditions. In some embodiments, the second opening may be configured to release a second medical conduit, during use, under a second set of loading conditions.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to a single channel mask estimation method capable of improving reverberant speech identification for CI users. The method is based on the energy of the reverberant signal and the residual signal computed from linear prediction (LP) analysis. The mask is estimated by comparing the energy ratio of the two signals at different frequency bins with an adaptive threshold. As the threshold is updated for each frame of speech based on the energy ratios of the reverberant and LP residual signals computed from previous frames, it is amenable for real-time implementation. It can thus be used as a specialized (for reverberant environments) sound coding strategy used for cochlear implant applications.
Abstract:
The claimed invention is an apparatus and method for performing impedance spectroscopy with a handheld measuring device. Conformal analyte sensor circuits comprising a porous nanotextured substrate and a conductive material situated on the top surface of the solid substrate in a circuit design may be used alone or in combination with a handheld potentiometer. Also disclosed are methods of detecting and/or quantifying a target analyte in a sample using a handheld measuring device.
Abstract:
A method of assessing parallel random number streams includes mixing two or more parallel random number streams. Mixing the parallel random number streams may include pairing at least one of the random number streams with other random number streams. For each mixed random number stream, an inter-stream correlation value may be computed based on a correlation among the random number steams used. A quality metric for the parallel random number streams may be determined from inter-stream correlation values for the two or more mixed streams created from the parallel random number streams. A quality metric for a single random number stream may be computed by segmenting the single random number stream into multiple substreams and applying the methods of mixing streams and computing quality metric in the case of parallel streams.
Abstract:
Embodiments of reversible systems and methods for fast, secure and efficient transmission, storage, and protection of digital multimedia are disclosed. The embodiments may have the ability to simultaneously compress and encrypt digital data in order to concurrently reduce data size and prevent reconstruction without the proper encryption key. Embodiments of a method may include pre-processing data to optimize the size of data segments to be compressed, transforming the data for improving the compressibility of the before-mentioned data segments, processing the data sequentially to generate predictive statistical models, encoding the data for simultaneously encrypting and compressing data segments using a keystream, and increasing both the compression ratio and security of these encoding processes using a block cipher. Embodiments of these methods may be suitable for use on both encrypted and unencrypted media.
Abstract:
Thermal barrier mixtures and method of making the thermal barrier mixtures are described herein. The thermal barrier mixtures may be used to make thermal barrier coatings. Thermal barrier mixture may include halloysite and one or more silicon compounds.
Abstract:
Methods of treating hydrocarbon containing formations are described herein. A method for treating a mudstone formation includes providing a substantially horizontal or inclined wellbore to mudstone formation; providing acid to the portion of mudstone formation such that a size of the fractures is increased; and allowing hydrocarbons to flow through the fractures.
