Abstract: Techniques described herein provide ways in which a quantity of signaling may be limited between a user equipment (UE) and a location server (LS) for a location session and a positioning protocol such as LPP or LPP/LPPe. The positioning protocol may be enhanced to allow the LS to indicate to the UE a limit on the overall size of assistance data (AD) that the UE can request and/or a limit on the overall amount of location information (LI) that the UE can return. A recipient UE can then prioritize any request for AD such that more important AD should fit within the size limit. The recipient UE can also prioritize returned location measurements such that more useful measurements are included in a message to the LS that is compliant to the limit indicated by the LS.

Abstract: Techniques for performing location logging and location and time based filtering are described. In one design of location logging, a terminal periodically determines its location, e.g., during its paging slots. The terminal determines whether there is a change in its location and stores its location if a change in location is detected. In one design of location and time based filtering, the terminal obtains a location and time criterion with a target area and a time period. The terminal determines its location during the time period, e.g., based on the location log. The terminal evaluates the location and time criterion based on the target area and its location during the time period, e.g., based on at least one sector ID for the target area and one or more sector IDs for its location. The terminal determines whether to download and/or present broadcast information based on the result of the evaluation.

Abstract: Techniques for sending and receiving broadcast information are described. In an aspect, broadcast metadata may be generated for broadcast information and may include location and time criteria used by terminals to filter the broadcast information. Each location and time criterion may include (i) a location criterion given by a target location and a presence or absence requirement and (ii) a time criterion given by a time period in which the location criterion applies. A terminal may receive the broadcast metadata prior to or with the broadcast information, obtain location and time criteria from the broadcast metadata, and filter the broadcast information based on the location and time criteria. The terminal may evaluate each location and time criterion by determining its location within a specified time period and determining whether its location is within or outside a specified target location, as indicated by the presence or absence requirement.

Abstract: Methods and techniques are described for supporting location services for a user equipment (UE) in a Fifth Generation wireless network using a Location Management Function (LMF) based control plane (CP) location solution. The LMF serves as the main anchor point for location support instead of an Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF). The LMF may be in either a serving Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) for a UE or in a Home PLMN for a roaming UE. The LMF may obtain location information for a UE via an AMF from a Next Generation Radio Access Network or the UE and may interact with a Gateway Mobile Location Center to receive location requests from and return location information to an external client. The LMF solution may be more efficient and require less implementation than an AMF based CP location solution.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are presented for obfuscating the locations of terrestrial wireless transceivers, including wireless access points and femtocells. According to some embodiments, a method may receive, by a mobile device, data for a terrestrial wireless transceiver, wherein the data includes location coordinates of the terrestrial wireless transceiver, and wherein the location coordinates include an error term. Additionally, the method may include determining the error term based on the data. Furthermore, the method may include determining a corrected location of the terrestrial wireless transceiver by removing the error term from the location coordinates. In some instances, the data can further include a unique identifier associated with the terrestrial wireless transceiver, and wherein the error term is further determined based on the unique identifier.

Abstract: Techniques are discussed for conveying frequency error characteristics for a plurality of cell transceivers from a server to a mobile device to enable the mobile device to determine an optimum or near optimum period of coherent integration of a downlink signal from one or more of the plurality of cell transceivers based on the frequency error characteristics. The coherent integration of the downlink signal may be to support a downlink terrestrial positioning method such as the Observed Time Difference of Arrival (OTDOA) method for Long Term Evolution (LTE) and the downlink signal may be a Positioning Reference Signal (PRS). A mobile device may perform downlink signal integration for longer periods than the optimum period for coherent integration by combining coherent integration results using non-coherent integration. The optimum period may achieve maximum or near maximum signal to noise ratio.

Abstract: Systems, methods and devices for computing a mobile device location using network centric location measurements are described. In one potential embodiment, a location method comprises performing a user plane location session between a mobile device and a location server in order to reliably coordinate positioning of the mobile device. Based on the network centric coordination, the location server instructs one or more access points to obtain location measurements for the mobile device. The location server may then locate the mobile device based on the location measurements and possibly any mobile centric location measurements obtained from the mobile device using the user plane location session. The coordination of network centric positioning using the user plane location session may comprise transfer of SUPL and possibly LPP/LPPe positioning messages between the mobile device and location server.
